I got the The Making of An Officer DVD when our family went to an admissions meeting here in San Antonio four years ago. We watch this video at least once every couple of weeks, and I frequently pop it in while I'm making dinner.

While we were at AIM, I was hoping to buy some in the Exchange, but we only saw the Eagle DVD (which I bought several). So at our interview, I asked the AP if she knew where I could get some of these because I thought it would be so great to send these out to family with the "I'm going to the Coast Guard Academy" high school graduation announcements.

Does anyone know where to get this DVD? They are so awesome! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. I am optimistically thinking ahead--I really hope for the need to purchase a whole bunch of these .

Search for "Inside America's Military Academies" which is the name of the documentary from which it came.

It usually plays on The Military Channel, it is a four-part series from about 10 years ago.

EDIT - It is a THREE-part series, not four.

As An Admissions Partner I received my Making of an Officer DVD's from the CGA Admissions Office (and the Admissions Officers do carry and give out copies when on the road). Objee may be able to answer whether additional copies can be obtained from Admissions Office.

A quick check of The Military Channel's guide shows that the series will be shown on Thursday, Jan 21, beginning at 8PM.

(Correction to my above post - it is only a THREE part series, not four).

All 3 one-hour episodes will be shown.

Inside America's Military Academies - The Making of an Officer

Seniors at several military academies serve as examples of the high moral standards and honor each institution strives to instill in its students. Course work as well as extracurricular activities are often geared to enhancing these qualities.

Luigi,

Thanks for the great comprehensive information. We don't have tv in our home (we usually get our news/information from the internet) It would be so great to get all 3 of these as a boxed set. I'm going to check the military channel on the web to see what they may have. Great info you provided, thank you. -officer

You can buy them on Amazon...separately not as a set. For the low, low price of 99.00 EACH! Ouch.

Maybe a friend could record it for you.

WHAAAAT?! That is craziness pricing. I think if CG admissions still has these available for AP's, I may just ask them if I can purchase some. I'd much rather have my money go the the CGA. For now, I usually "torture" :shake: everyone who walks in the door to sit and watch the DVD with me. I cry every time the graduation scene comes on. Oh, and who is the guy that graduated with High Honors? Man, talk about an academic wonder. My son hopes to graduate with Honors, but after chatting with current cadets and parents of cadets, I'm sure he will be happy to just get A's or B's in his classes. Exciting Times. How is Joyce doing? Not much longer now before she joins her brothers and sisters at the academy. YAY! Take Care -officer

Thanks for the update Luigi! This is one of my favorite documentaries on the Military Channel along with Making Marines and Navy Seal BUDs. I drive my family crazy with this documentary, even though my parents are retired Air Force.

We're actually updating that video, new version should be ready in March/April, so I'm sure our Marketing Branch is looking for ways to use up all the old ones...you can request copies by calling 860-701-6786.

That's great news, thank you Objee.

That good to hear. :thumb:

Hearing the swab summer companies referred to as X/Y/Z, seeing R-day swabs in trops, lining up to Report at the arches instead of Leamy Hall, seeing Cadet Memorial Field with a grass field, and interviewing CAPT (now Admiral) Papp when he was skipper of Eagle gives it a "dated" look, don't ya think?

Just finished watching! That was great even if it was slightly dated. I sure didn't know the difference. It just made me even more proud!

Too bad our daughter didn't get to watch it since she has two tests tomorrow. She was so mad when we told her it was coming on and she realized she couldn't watch it with us. Hopefully she'll get to experience all of it first hand.

Thanks so much for posting the date/time!
