Trying to plan when to arrive in Annapolis on 6/29. Is there anything specific that anyone recommends doing before I-day?
Thanks!

Going on the Yard and exploring. Opening up your NFCU/USAA accounts. Checking out the Mid Store. Depending on your previous (or family traveling with you) exposure to the Yard, taking a tour. Visiting the museum. Parents…get their DBIDS. Before the lines are really long.

In the evening, strolling DTA. Eating at the local hot spots. A fun and relaxing day.

A good meal the night before. Drink water. Walk the yard, it helps alleviate anxiety. Pick out a spot near T Court to meet after the swearing in. Soak it in. There is only one I Day. Enjoy the experience.

so many things to do like mentioned above - also find a place to meet your plebe after the oath - go to mid store for sure! load up on lots of great stuff! dinner and ice cream in DTA! get a good nights sleep!!!

For the plebe-to-be . . . eat your favorite food, text your friends, play your favorite video game / watch your favorite movie or TV show / listen to favorite songs. These are things you'll do again, but not for the next 6 weeks.

Thanks for the feedback! We’ll plan to hit Pusser’s after the swearing in. Or I guess that’s how we could pass the time from drop off to oath - lol!

Oh! Now I get it. You're not the Plebe!
Yes, go to Pusser's, The Federal House, O'Brien's, or 1771 Grill & Taproom (my favorite) and have a little post-door-slamming medication. Absolutely.

I’m getting to the area around the 25th (a bit more time for activities), any other suggestions on how to spend the last few days besides the usual eating spots and Yard tour?

- National Aquarium in Baltimore.
- Go do the M&M tour (Monuments & Museums) in DC if you have never done it. So much to see - all the Smithsonian Museums, National Archives, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Native American Museum, African-American Museum, etc. Arlington National Cemetery. You can use the DC Metro system to get around (google WMATA DC Trip Planner) or buy a day ticket for a hop-on/hop-off bus. It will be hot, sticky and humid, great training for Plebe Summer.

I actually gave my mid one more "out" before I-day. We visited the Monuments at the National Mall and I asked him "Are you ok knowing that one day, your name may be on one of these?". He was un-phased and responded with "Of course I don't want that, but I feel that this is what I'm meant to do". Of course, mid-mom didn't didn't like hearing me ask the question.

Seems like a lifetime ago, but as I've written on my blog a number of times, I-Day was, without question, my worst day as a parent, mostly because we (as a family, including my son) didn't really know what we were getting into. If we had, the night before I Day would have been simple enough - let him pick the type of dinner he wanted (which we did, he wanted Italian), get some ice cream, hydrate (a lot), and get a good night's sleep. Spend as much time together as possible. Oh, the one thing we DID do right was staying really close to The Yard (we stayed at what is now The Graduate).

Good luck! The roller coaster ride begins in earnest June 29!

Great in theory .... not so much in practice.
How many truly get a good night sleep ? (including both parents and Plebes?)
Seems to me you are better off keeping busy than sitting in hotel room watching the clock.
Yep, definitely person-dependent. In DS's case, he was pretty whacked out so he conked out at a reasonable hour and we had to wake him up to get to his 8 a.m. report time. As for me, I rarely sleep more than 4 or 5 hours a night, so it didn't matter all that much. And, like I said, we really didn't know what we were all getting into, so ignorance led to a good night's sleep!

Now, after the gut-punch of I-Day, sleeping during Plebe Summer was a bigger issue.

Night before I Day sleep is tough for many. Hotels with multiple people, maybe even the first night in the hall, nerves. It’s why leading up to it you need to sleep well, take really long showers (you will understand this after about day 2), drink a lot of water and Gatorade, play video games, be a kid for the last time.

NavyHoops knows whereof she speaks. Plebes will never have an entire summer off again, if they stick with this for the 4 plus minimum of 5 years, and they will transition to beloved visitors at their childhood home.
