Apparently the Boot Letter is available on the candidate portal for those who have accepted appts, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it located somewhere odd?
 
It said on prospective net and the parents facebook page that it was already available on the candidate portal.
 
The only thing I've seen as of yet is the sizing information, where you put your shoe size and width. Perhaps that's what they meant?

The boot letter should be visible on the candidate log in portal once a can didate has accepted their appointment.
If you are visiting WP bring the letter with you as it authorizes you to ma ke a purchase in the Post Exchange (AAFES).
It is a perfect opportunity to try on and purchase boots and shoes if they are available.
As stated in the information, not all Military Clothing Sales Stores will h ave the black leather low quarters, but they should be able to order them f or you.

Well, on the thread, the poster doesn't say it's already on there, but that it would be on there shortly. Obviously, shortly must mean longer than a month and a half, though, because it definitely isn't on the portal. At least it does mention the exact specifications, so you could get them now, if you wanted.

I'm assuming, for the Belleville's, that we would get the 310 hot weather boots.

The boot and low quarter shoe letter has been signed!
It should be available on the Candidate Log In portal shortly.
The letter authorizes incoming new cadets to purchase boots and black shoes before coming to West Point. The prices listed below are AAFES prices. If you purchase through another source, expect to pay more.

The approved boot manufacturers for the hot weather tan boot are Wellco, Belleville, McRae and Altama Delta. NIKES ARE NOT APPROVED AT THIS TIME. Two websites posted below....

The men's shoe is an oxford style, black leather, mildew resistant; non-shiny; DSCP - AAFES key item #M206H, $45.65); authorized one pair.
The women's shoe is also an oxford style, black leather, moccasin toe; non-shiny; DSCP - Style 90100: key item #M210P; $45.60); authorized one pair.

The black leather oxford shoes may not be available in all military clothing sales stores. They can be purchased at most Air Force clothing sales stores.

Recommend visting a GOOD shoe store where feet can be measured before ordering if ordering via phone.

Recommend bringing one pair of shoes and one pair of boots at a minimum. Additional pair of boots and shoes will be issued on R Day. Spend time in your shoes/boots to get your feet used to wearing this type of footwear and for break in purposes...eliminating the potential for blisters and foot problems during summer training.
 
Is there going to be a specific model of Bellvilles we are allowed to buy? Or is it safe to assume the 310 hot weathers are correct? The 340s seem to look more like what I have seen people wearing. I am doing my overnight in February and thought it would be a good opportunity to knock out two birds in one stone and get the boots without having to drive to Bragg cause I really don't want to order them online without trying them on for size.

I'm not sure exactly which model to buy, but I'm sure that all of them will fit the same. If you size yourself for the 340s and then find out we're supposed to buy the 310s, there shouldn't be a problem.

Sizing in Belleville and then ordering in Wellco, though, I wouldn't risk.
 
From the pdf file on the candidate portal named "Instructions for Applicants Offered Admission:"

In mid-March, cadet candidates will be able to download and print a letter from the “2nd Admissible” on the candidate portal authorizing the purchase of one pair of boots, one pair of low quarters (no patent leather), and, for females, one pair of women’s pumps from Army Air Force Exchange System (AAFES) Military Clothing Sales Stores. This will allow prospective cadets to properly prepare and break in their footwear at their leisure before coming to West Point.
 
Yeah I just didn't know if it had come out earlier due to the information I received otherwise, but I guess not.
 
personal experience with boot purchase

When we were on our visit to West Point last week we were able to go to the PX (Post Exchange) and purchase boots and low quarters there without a "boot letter".

The wonderful woman in the PX named "Pinky" said she is allowed to sell the required boots and shoes to "incoming cadets" even without the boot letter... she was clear that ONLY "issue" boots, shoes and socks were able to be purchased since our son does not yet have the "boot letter" as we are waiting for his official notification of acceptance.

This is just a "sample of one" but I thought it was worthy of sharing in case you are visiting WP. It was nice to have the help of Pinky in the selection and fitting of my son's "footwear"... and kind of fun to carry home "army boots" on the plane.

I don't have any first-hand experience, but this footwear is going to be important to the health and well-being of all plebes and to have them fitted and broken in before Beast totally makes sense to me... also, because so many plebes have never worn this kind of footwear, getting used to the boots seems to make good sense.

I never wear new shoes for 16-18 hours at work unless I have broken them in first....

The black shoes are a requirement. The boots are recommended.



I heard some advice from a fellow classmate today who is pursuing an appointment. His older brother is a plebe this year, and this is what his brother and another girl from my school did last year:

They purchased Belleville's in advance but did NOT bring them to R-day. One, it was another thing to carry. Two, apparently (according to my friend) some of the new cadets were given crap for bringing Belleville's ("You think you're in the real army?" or something to that extent.), and three, when their parents brought them come A-day, they had a nice pair of boots to wear with their ACUs around the barracks, since the issued pair they used throughout the second half of Beast had some wear and tear. Thoughts and opinions on this?
 
I went to the AFB in the area today to get my immunization records and update the boosters I needed. While I was there, I decided to check out clothing sales, so I could at least get sized for boots. To my surprise, they had received a letter denoting specifically which boots appointees were authorized to purchase, dated January 2009. So, I got my boots (Altama's), my oxfords, and a pair of Aesics running shoes on sale for $36, down from the usual $75. Jackpot!
