Am I too late?

This is my first post on the forums, so bare with me.

I became a candidate for appointment for the class of 2014 around the 6th of January of this year and my nerves are completely shot.
I'm applying from college and have alot of my application packet completed, but I haven't been able to contact my BGO or received a notification from DoDMERB.

Am I too late to be competitive? I'm extremely committed to getting into the USNA, but if I don't, I'll have to go through another year of college for nothing (seeing as how I have to begin again as a plebe if accepted).
Do I stand a snowball's chance, or am I pretty much wasting my time?

I assume from your user ID that you are from Kentucky. If so, have you already submitted applications for nominations from our US Senators (Bunning and McConnell), from your US Rep, and from any other sources for which you are eligible? You are past the deadline for both Sen. McConnell and Sen. Bunning for the class that will enter this coming July. The web site for your US representative will have their deadlines.

If you have at least one nomination, then you are not too late, but you do need to hurry. The process for getting medical clearance can be quite lengthy, and that process will not start until a large portion of your application materials have been submitted to USNA.

Your USNA application must be complete by March. See the "Steps fpr Admission" page under Admissions on the USNA web page. Good luck!

You are not too late from the USNA side. You may, however, have missed the application deadlines for your MOC's to get a nomination. Do you have any other nomination sources? Presidential, ROTC?

I think the nomination is your biggest hang up at this late stage of the game. However, if this is your dream, there is always next year.

You are not too late, but you don't have any time to waste. Send a quick letter to the Vice President to apply for his nomination. It is a contingency nomination controlled by USNA (or the other DOD academies), but it is a nom and I have seen it used. As a college student your transcripts won't be reviewed until sometime next month most likely as USNA has special board sessions for college students.

As an aside, if you play your cards right, your college work may facilitate your completing your BS requirements by the end of your second class year (junior) and make you eligible to apply for a graduate program from one of the civ colleges in the Balt/DC area.

I've contacted Sen. McConnel and his people say that his nomination letter is in Washington right now, but it hasn't showed up on my CIS and I'm worried when it will get there.
My main fear was the Medical Examination, as that is the only thing that my application lacks now. It's good to hear that they review college students at a seperate time than regular applicants, because as far as my grades and extracurricular activities go I should hold ground there.

I am not sure if I am misreading this but... do you have a nomination then?

I have a nomination, yes, but it has not yet reached the Admissions office in the Academy. Apparently, it has to go through something in Washington I guess. Either that or they just sent it to the wrong place.
I contacted the Admissions office and they tell me that my DoDMERB examination won't be scheduled for another two weeks, so I think I may be out of time.

You are not out of time. As soon as you get your DODMERB info, don't delay on getting your physical.
Also, nominations don't have to get there until the end of the month.

I don't think you will run out of time as long as you get everything that needs to be completed asap. Best of Luck!

KYCandidate2014, where in KY are you located? We are in Bowling Green and my son's DODMERB process went smoothly and did not take that long, once the exam was completed.
