Are AP scores validated at West Point? It's about time to start signing up/paying for AP tests and I was just wondering if i'll get any credit for taking and passing my exams.

If you receive a 5 then they may validate, however most of the time you have to test out of the course.

You will have to test out of most of them. Having a 5 is a pre-requisite to test out of certain ones as well so if you want to validate classes, take the AP exams.

WOW thats unfair :frown:

Does that mean that I shouldn't take the AP exams for classes I dont think I can get a 5 in? Getting a 5 on any test is a big challenge and I've never gotten a 5. All the past AP tests Ive taken in high school are mostly 4s and one 3 or so...they've all gone to waste!

That doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. Everyone everywhere gets the exact same AP test so if there's people who got 5s who aren't able to pass the validation tests, it doesn't seem like people with lower scores would be able to. And also, AF said CERTAIN tests, not all of them. So you could still possibly validate classes even if you've never gotten a 5.

Yes, CERTAIN tests do. I don't know the exact score needed for each but I do know the lowest ones require a 4 on the AP test.

But the fact that there are "validation tests" defeats the purpose. Regular colleges don't have anything like that. True, they are still opportunities to get ahead, but tbh, I highly doubt anyone retains any of the knowledge they used on AP tests they took one, two years ago...its not impossible to skip, but it'll be much harder.

Oh well. I might take a shot at some tests, but I think it'd be less of a trouble to just take the classes from the very beginning

Well AP tests aren't there just for the credit, they are there to challenge you as a college class would, and give you a taste of what you will get once you reach college. Many competitive colleges (Like Stanford or Ivy League schools), EXPECT you to take AP classes. They rarely give out credit to people who pass the tests.

If you want to be competitive in getting into a academy, I would "take a shot at some tests." They sorta look good on an application ;)

Yes, they might boost an application some, but I did not take the tests last year because I did not want to spend $80 (or however much it costs per test) for something that just "sorta looks good" and won't have any other benefit.

Does anyone know which validation tests require a good AP score to be able to take? I believe there was also one or two classes that one could validate if s/he received a 5 on the AP, does anyone know that?

Before I go about taking extra tests (through self-study), I want to know out of these tests which will validate (or in more proper terms, be taken into consideration) required (regardless of major) courses at USMA:

AP Psychology
AP Spanish Lang
AP Computer Sci
AP Phys C (if already taken AP Phys B)
AP Stat
AP Bio
AP Enviro Sci

I took some AP tests my junior year. Did well on them. Could probably validate US History and English, but I'm not gonna. Not taking any AP tests this year either. I figure that USMA isn't going to have any 'blow-off' classes, even if I have taken them before, and that by validating, I will be missing out.

I know that a high score in AP Psych will get you into advanced Psych rather than the regular one.

What is the advanage of being in an advance class vs a regular?

I've taken the following:

AP Computer Science AB----4
AP European History--------3
AP English Language--------3
AP Statistics---------------5
AP Biology-----------------5
AP Psychology-------------5
This year:
AP Calc BC--------probably 5
AP US History-----probably 5
AP Physics--------probably 4/5
AP English Lit.----probably 4

Which of these will get me close to validating and which would be worth validating? If I were to validate all possible, how tough would it be to dual major?
