So I have a weird question. No it doesn't affect me or anybody that I know. It is just from plain curiosity.

Has an MOC ever submitted their nomination slate past the deadline? Like what if a candidate is notified by their MOC that they received a nomination but the MOC doesn't get the slate submitted in time? Will this affect the candidate in anyway even though it isn't there fault? And will the academy still accept the slate?

Just wondering

My guess is some kind of system of checks and balances. Like a week out they have a list where they notify any MOC's with lists outstanding. Then probably today, they check in with all of them before they go. Have an emergency fax number for the weekend. I'm sure the whole "boy, wouldn't it look bad if we publicized to your constituents that you don't have anyone attending the academies this year because you missed the deadline" routine has to be pretty effective! And I'm sure that in 99% of cases, there is a staffer doing the job that certainly wouldn't want to face that prospect.

That said, my guess is that somehow if it were to happen, they'd work with the MOC to get it taken care of ASAP - even if it were Monday. I can't imagine they'd let the candidates take the loss just because someone (a MOC's office) missed the deadline. Sure they'll be on the phone Monday morning saying "NOW. Give me the names!"

But of course I know nothing about any of this so it's all just a complete guess!

That makes a lot of sense! Even if this isn't how they go about it, I am sure it is similar to what they do. Thanks for the answer!

The SA works extremely closely with MOC staff to ensure this does not occur. If, however, it were to occur the SA would undoubtedly work with the MOC so that the candidate is not unduly harmed. Of course, if a MOC simply doesn't get it done and time comes, passes and keeps passing, then the SA hands could theoretically be tied. The SA cannot appoint without a nomination - they simply have no authority to do so. They do have access to other noms, but of course it is in everyones best interest to get a MOC nom.

Yes, it does happen, to answer the question.

The MoC I chair the nom board for...we made the nom selections...but right after that, the office (read: the MoC) was inundated with legislation at the last minute, a bunch of personal things for him and his staff, etc...etc...

And the Director that sends those to the academies...forgot. It was understandable.

I called because my "kids" hadn't gotten their nom letters...the Director was shocked! TOTALLY forgot...

Submitted them that day and the USAFA system was updated the next day.

The academy will NOT allow them to go "missing" and will search them out, have no fear! :thumb:

I realize that this is a REALLY old thread, but your answer helped my anxiety. Lol! DS knows he has noms from his MOC, but it's been over three weeks and they haven't been sent to the SAs. I will try and wait patiently like my DS is doing.

It has been over five weeks since our DS had his interview and noms are still not out. They said end of this week. Not holding our breath. DS is walking thru this like a day in the park. I need more distractions and posts to read.
