My son has a friend who is being recruited to USAFA to play football. He has not applied nor attempted the nomination process, but they said they can get him in...they also told him he would be making $800 per month pay AFTER all things are taken out. We don't want this kid to believe one thing if it is not true...he needs to go for the RIGHT reasons. Can anyone "in the know" tell us exactly what the pay is and how likely he would be to get in at this late stage?

With regards to the pay, I think the numer is 800.00 but that is not what you actually get. I think you get around 240.00 maybe less. I know they also take out money for uniforms and other things. The rest they keep in an account and I beleive you have access to some of the money your junior or senior year.

With regards to the football recruitment, it is pretty late. The big think is can he get an interview with a senator or congressman for his nomination. No matter what the coach's says you still have to have a nomination to get in. If he has not even started the process, it is long and ardous. There is so much to do, as you well know if your son is in. He shoud probably call the coach, then admissions. Hope this helps

I am reminded of the very sad story of the USNA football player who is now doing time in the brig for theft last fall when he misunderstood the salary promises and got pressure to send money home.

Not sure what the Yearling and Cow pay are but they are somewhere in between.

Prepster = $600/month

Plebes = $200/month
Firstie = $500/month

Are you talking about the person that stole Midshipman's credit cards and bought electronic equipment at the Midn Store, and then fenced them for cash?

Often recruited athletes for some sports are taken into academies through the "back door"...meaning they don't need to meet w/ an MOC...they get the Supt. nom.

I can't speak for USAFA, but pay at USMA is a little over $800 BEFORE deductions. If you haven't already, you should post this on the USAFA forum.
