Does anyone know if you are eligible for FAFSA on top of an AFROTC scholarship? My EFC is 0, so even if I get a Type 1 paying for room and board will be a problem. So does anyone know if FAFSA will cover whatever my AFROTC scholarship doesn't?

FAFSA is not a scholarship, but a form that is used to qualify applicants for federal grants and loan programs and work study. That being said, getting the ROTC scholarship does not disqualify you from those programs. However, the school you attend will limit the total amount of FA you receive through these Federal programs to the school's calculated COA (cost of attendance which includes tuition, books, room & board, travel and a small amount for personal expenses).

If your FAFSA EFC is 0, then you should get the full Pell grant (don't remember this year's amount) and a subsidized Stafford loan to cover the R&B, although I don't know if the ROTC stipend is counted against this amount. The college FA office should be able to tell you that. If it is, it will come against the Stafford loan first if your total awards exceed the COA.

Not sure how to answer your question exactly but I can tell you we were told to fill out the FAFSA anyway. Maybe the Army saves some money if FAFSA kicks some in? FAFSA told us we were on the hook for the 1st $23K so I'm not sure how that will work out...my daughter still hass to pass the physical and pick a school.
