Read this on Drudge today, and I thought it was interesting. She has come out for decreasing the military budget, I wonder if it includes her!

But that single receipt makes up just part of the more than $101,000 taxpayers paid for "in-flight services" – including food and liquor, for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trips on Air Force jets over the last two years. That's almost $1,000 per week.

Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by Judicial Watch, which investigates and prosecutes government corruption, show that the Pelosi incurred expenses of some $2.1 million for her use of Air Force jets for travel over that time.

If you look closely to the bill on the right it is from Bolling AFB shoppette (typically class 6's ---liquor store--- are in the shoppette)

If this is true, this is very disturbing. I don't know how much more our political and financial leaders must damage their reputations and damage our trust in them

I suppose we should change the Constitution and demand the Speaker of the House have a permanent residence in Va or MD.

The President is the chief executive of the Nation, so I can totally understand his flights. The Speaker of the House oversees the House of Representatives. The House is made up of representatives from districts in each state. With the exception of flying home to CA, why would the Speaker need to fly anywhere besides her district and Washington DC? Everything else should be covered by the respective representatives...

That doesn't explain the "in flight' part of those expenses. No way she needs to be spending that much taxpayer money on that. 1000 dollars a week for snacks and booze on flights? But of course this will for sure not be reported in the liberal mainstream media while Sarah Palin's clothing costs which were bought with private funds rather than taxpayer money were so closely scrutinized.

I think you are missing the bigger point which is her abuse of power. I have heard from at least 3 people who work on the Hill or for the AF that she is known to do things like call for the aircraft and then not use it, or has family members of the staff fly. The woman makes a huge issue of the little people, but given the opportunity she will abuse them.

$1000 a week in taxpayer dollars is a lot of money, and that is just for flying. A few months ago they showed that she charges approximately that in flowers. I can't recall the link, but there was one that showed she goes through 1000 water bottles a week too! SO much for being green!

She epitomizes what is wrong with our government!

Make them pay out of pocket and file travel claims like the rest of us.

LITS - the Speaker of the House is third in line to the Presidency (*shudder*). That title is and has been afforded special protection by the Secret Service.

Then surely the President Pro Temp of the Senate, and the Sec. of State, and Sec. of Treasury, and the Sec. of Defense.....

all should have special protection.

I too shudder, hahaha.

They do. In fact, I don't think the Speaker of the House is allowed to fly commercial.
By direction of the Department of Homeland Security (your employer - lol) the Secret Service protects ALL members who are in line for presidential succession. (regardless of political party)

The Perks of power:

I can do anything I want to do, when I want to do it, whatever it costs. As long as it is charged to someone else. And you can't stop me.

Yep. When you are elected to Speaker of the House, you get those perks too!

JAM:

You don't have a problem with this? I would be embarrassed if this was on my travel record. I have turned in many an expense account reviewed by Trust Fund Trustees and the DOL. Believe me if any of this was on my reported travel account I would have gone to jail.

A problem with what? Affording Secret Service protection to the Speaker of the House?
Read tpg's post again - she is not allowed to fly commercial.

tpg - you are correct she is second in line behind the VP (*shudder) who is first in line. I simply can't count! (actually I was counting Obama as #1, VP as #2 etc)

from the link by Pima:
"Speaker Pelosi has a history of wasting taxpayer funds with her boorish demands for military travel," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said today. "And these documents suggest the Speaker's congressional delegations are more about partying than anything else."

boorish demands for military travel? this is ridiculous. She has NO choice!
Now, since the first part of the statement is absurd, I can't give any credibility to the rest.

As with the OP. Cost of travel OK? Add on costs of travel, $100K incidental costs, problem? No problem with SS protection or costs for SS protection or military costs for anywhere the Speaker of the House wants to go. The Speaker is third in line and deserves any and all rights and protection required. I do question the "other entertainment" costs. The Speaker does have a choice if he or she uses to exercise it. The choice might be "First Class All The Way" or think of the Taxpayer. I don't mean hop a C-130 sitting in a sling to California. But reign it back a little when you fill the plane.

I wonder how far down that lines goes until they say "well if this person could be President, then we're all SOL."

LIS:

We were SOL a long time ago. SNAFU and FIGMO. You take your orders and do your duty. Salute and carry on.:thumb:
