Holy smokes, I see ALOT of waiver requests and waiver info. It makes it look like nobody even passes the physical. It's got me a lil worried, wondering if my daughter is going to pass herself...

Anyway, anybody have any idea of what percentage of applicants get thru w/o any problems at all?

Once you have the physical, what's the standard wait time to find out if you're qualified?

...we just found out today my daughter received the scholarship so we're new to this portion of the process.

Cut and paste your posting; provide me full name and last 4 SSN; and send to Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil. I can assist U better from there. I will be traveling all day tomorrow, so I'll reply very late tomorrow night with your answers:thumb:

I was told by my USNA regional director that 80% of applicants to the SA's are medically disqualified, I would say its plausible to assume the same for scholarships. As for wait time, each varies by individual. Could be a week, could be a couple months. Good luck! :thumb:

That seems super high...

Don't worry about it, be honest. Getting a remedial means they need more information(either more tests or medical records)

Time wise, if you don't see a change on the DODMERB website around 7 business days after the appointment, I would e-mail Mr. Mullen just to check on things.

Congrats on the schlarship!

That's a crazy high number but almost believable when I saw the list of medical DQ's on the website. I think the only thing that wasn't listed was "toenails too long". :shake:

For what it's worth to anybody interested, I spoke with the PMS at one of our school choices today. He told me that he has processed over 60 ROTC candidates thru his school and had done "just a handful" of waivers. The ones that did the waiver made it thru as well.

i dont think 80% is correct. i talked to the pms at my #1 choice school today and he said that most people do get through, unless there are significant problems.

MALO told sonthat about 20% of cadets at USMA got waivers.

I hope for the sake of other candidates that you are right. I know that personally I've been under waiver consideration for around four months now for some really ridiculous things. My RD told me he was dq'd four different ways...not saying it isn't high because it is TERRIBLY high, but why would he lie?

you're applying to the usna, right? I'm doing army rotc, which maybe is a little more lenient because it's not an academy.
still, 80% does seem pretty high.

That is why I'm here. That figure is utterly false!

I will answer individual questions that are emailed to me. I will provide factual responses:thumb:

I think the numbers that have been quoted might have something more to do with service academy,ROTC applicants/interested persons being "Physically" unfit rather than "medically" disqualified.

A report was released recently by the Pentagon that has been making the rounds around the Internet that 75% of US youth between the ages of 17-24 are "unfit" to serve in the military. Of this, 35% have physical/or medical issues which would deem them unqualified, 6% are considered obese. ( Information taken from ArmyTimes report).

I think that maybe a lot of people are confusing these figures with medical waivers. Maybe it doesn't help that the service academies have also been using these figures in some capacity when speaking to the concerns of "physically unfit" applicants.

Seeing as every applicant is reviewed on a case-by-case basis by DoDMERB and if necessary, by the waiver authorities, it really just matters for that applicant what THEIR outcome is in the final analysis:thumb:

That's because the people that post on here are the ones who have questions about their on DQs/remedials/waivers. I don't see many (if any) who post here just to say they've qualified right out of the blocks. That's why it seems so skewed.

That is correct. That is also why I make myself available to answer folks individually and privately. It really doesn't matter what the percentages are...it matters what determinations/decisions are made in YOUR case.:thumb:
