changing schools

Son received scholarship from last board--grin grin--but not to the school which he now deems his first choice--frown. Is it possible to change, and if so what is the procedure? Thanks all for your help.

Each ROTC program has it's own procedure. The safest way to go about it (This is directly from a PMS at a school for AROTC) is to contact the PMS of the school of choice and ask if they have any slots open (or will reserve scholarship money) for your son. If so, then once you are admitted to the school, you will need to send letter to original school letting them know your intention to switch. Ask PMS at new school how Cadet Command handles it.

For NROTC, ask new school, but put in change request using NROTC form included in booklet.

AFROTC...don't think this applies, because you turn in letter of accenptance with copy of school admissions letter in May.

Its a bit unusual: ROTC at schools A and B are run through State U; he has been accepted at both A and B; but scholarship only to school B (when school A is now where he wants to go). He did call PMS at State U, who he interviewed with and has a relationship with, and he said he would check into it. So, it may be that there is nothing else to do at this point; just somewhat bittersweet, as son has focused on school A.

Every battallion is a bit different in how they manage their scholarships. In goaliegirl's case, there are battallions where they allocate the scholarships to specific schools because they host most activities at each campus (exceptions being field exercises), so transferring scholarships between campuses can be done, but may leave one campus a very small group and a less desirable experience.

In other cases, there are financial constraints (one school may cost more than another) which inhibit transfers.

Let the battallion know how you feel. They do try to accommodate.

Contact the PMS at #1 school. That made ALL the difference for me when I was changing schools.

They can really get stuff done. Sometimes there are things they can't fix (Quotas), but sometimes you can get results if they fight for you.

Definately contact the PMS at target school. My daughter was offered 4-year at in-state school and 3-year at #1 school (out of state). We worked with the #1 school PMS and were able to get her scholarship upgraded to the full 4-year. Make sure the PMS at #1 school knows his school is your #1 choice!
