I just received notice today that I have to redo my one-mile run. On all of the other exercises I am either average or above average. However, I am very weak in my cardio fitness. I was wondering if anyone knew what time is the cut-off for the one mile run?

Just over 10 minutes. Bear in mind that I am at an altitude of about 4,000 feet. However, it is still pathetic.

Bear in mind that you will be at an altitude of over 7,000 feet. Maybe 9 tops. Try not to go out too fast on your first lap.

I was told by one of the academy officiers that the girls must not exceed 9.15 in the mile or they would be automatically disqualfied. I don't know what it is for the guys. Hope this helps alittle:smile:

From reading these boards it sounds like for guys it's around 8:00 - maybe 8:0-something!

Do you have to do the entire CFA again or only the mile? I've never heard of them requesting just the mile part.

Ah, bummer! That's what I figured, but thought maybe since we were getting so close to deadlines and stuff they were now just asking for one part! Oh well, it was a thought! Good luck!

it's okay, they requested that i retake mine to get a pullup, but i didn't do much better.

you could try sprint/jog or light run intervals, that way maybe a few seconds recovery will give you the mentality and energy. unless your jog/run was a flat out walk, it could really help.

I'd suggest running at the same pace the whole time and concentrating on breathing. Once you fall into that rhythm, it's a lot easier to continue.

I guess no news is good news. :)

Something that helped me with my mile run was looking straight ahead at something and focusing in on it. Controlling your breathing into a rhythm helps. Something that I always do on a mile run is the last half lap, I sprint all out, expending everything. And I'm also at 4500-5000 ft MSL ;)

Or find the right song to repeat over and over in your head - the laps will fly by that way.

Another thing is to have a inspiring friend that can push you and keep you at a good pace run along side of you. So, if your pace starts to slow they can give you an extra word of incouragment. Just a thought. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great.

Ya you really need to drop your time by at least 2 min.....here, we have to run a mile and a half under 11 min. For running training, run hills. Hills will get you into running shape quick. As far as running a track, keep a watch on you at all times and keep your time in mind. first lap shoot for about 1 45 - 150, second lap same thing. for the last two laps, just try to keep it under 2:15. If you can do that, you will probably go an 8 30 mile....

How did they notify you? I received my completeness determination a month ago, and yesterday when I checked the site, it said my fitness evaluation was incomplete. I'm guessing that they want me to retake it because my times weren't that great.

It will be perfectly clear if they want you to retake it.

Note, however, that according to CFA instructions for the official test, your not allowed to "Receive pacing by another person." and proctors are told to monitor for this.

This is true. But you can have people set every quarter mile and have them yell encouraging words at you, if you know what I mean.

This is your chance to show the board how dedicated you are. Especially if you drop your time by a minute or two.

Keep that in the back of your mind. This is not just any run. If you feel like you're slowing down, remind yourself of the academy.

What happens if you take the CFA at busy track and there are other people running? Does the proctor have to clear the track of everyone in order for you take take the test? Otherwise it is conceivable that you just might use one of the other people running to pace youself.
