I'm getting a little discouraged looking at all the other candidates' high school credentials for the academy. Does having the Eagle Scout Rank help you at all, or do they look at your grades and extra-curricular school activities more?
Thanks. Go Saints...

Eagle Scouts have the proud distinction of being the group with the highest graduation rate at all of the Service Academies. Nothing shows determination, dedication, well-roundedness, and accomplishment like attaining the highest rank in Boy Scouts. Being an Eagle Scout ranks equal to being the captain of a varsity sport when the Academies calculate the candidate's overall score. Congratulations, and good luck! :thumb:

In terms of admissions, Eagle Scout gives you a slight bump but not greater than many other accomplishments (team captain, high SATs, doing well at NASS, etc). Become an Eagle Scout because you want to demonstrate the qualities that are needed to become one, not solely for SA admission purposes -- not suggesting the OP did this, merely telling others that Eagle Scout/Gold Award is a tremendous accomplishment but isn't a huge plus for USNA admissions purposes.

Our BGO, and others, say Eagle is impressive ... but that Life also gets candidates a few bonus points ... he told us he has this talk with the MOC committee people all the time ... (Our BGO was also involved in our son's Boy Scout Troop) ... Eagle is tough, and in high school kids often have to choose between scouts and sports ... as our son did ... Scouts met at the same time as football practice. So, yes, by all means get your Eagle if you can ... but Life gets recognized too! Good luck!

congrats

my unit jrotc sasi did mention that being an Eagle Scout is a very solid evidence of an individual's leadership abilities.

I'm currently a life scout and working on my eagle requirements.

btw today is BSA 100th aniversery

Eagle was a huge factor in receiving nomination, in my opinion. Our MOC was a former judge and has been quated saying that he never once had an eagle Scout before him as a defendent. When my older son went to shake his hand at a breakfast, son introduced himself as an applicant to the USAFA and a new Eagle Scout. MOC stopped everything to make sure the assistant got son's info, and attended the eagle ceremony.
Eagle combined with SPL and a very interesting Eagle project will help you in many of your applications.

Dude, you think your discouraged...you have one more leadership award/experience than I do.

so being eagle scout, spl, two varsity sport captain, third varsity sport member, all met athlete, school president, and a club president, would be good? combined with good SATs, high gpa and class rank, rigorous high school, and good score on the fitness assessment

As long as you avoid Kryptonite, you should be fine.
