My son was late to meal, and was lucky enough to stand next to the Carter family last week when there was some sort of ceremony.

He was a great man. Egypt and Israel is probably what I will remember from his presidency.

Prayers to the family in this hard time. This was overdue and should have been done a few years ago when he was healthier.

I am not a fan of his presidency but he has always been a man of class and honor and his lifelong acts of service to and for others is my favorite thing about him.
Not sure any of the nation’s problems that occurred during his presidency, such as oil crisis, mega inflation, Iran hostage crisis were his fault. Just bad luck for him that they happened during his term in office. But I voted for Regan in 1980 nevertheless.

At some point, I want to review his presidency with a different eye.

I would like to see more about the CIA involvement in JFK assassination, learn more about the four CIA members involved in watergate, Gerald Ford, the delay in bringing the hostages home for political reasons, etc.

It has been forgotten that the Carter Administration implemented radical deregulation of transportation that was praised by none other than the Cato Institute...in real time.

He also inherited a Federal Reserve which in many ways was responsible for the high inflation of the late 70's and early 90's. He appointed Paul Volker, whose interest rate policy killed the economy in the short run, but set the stage for sustained growth with low inflation for the long run. I bought my first house in 1981 with a 12% mortgage.

I remember the Olin Employees Credit Union was giving “bargain” rate car loans at 12%. I couldn’t afford a car payment and kept driving my ‘69 Camaro.

I can remember getting a private mortgage at 8% and loving it. When it was paid off, the real estate taxes were as much as the mortgage and real estate taxes I paid when I first started paying.

Seems long overdue. Regardless of what one thinks of Jimmy Carter’s politics and White House tenure, he’s a USNA alum who became President of the United States. That’s something!
Agree! Long overdue!!

Glad to see this as well. Is it just me, or does Jimmy Carter seem to be less passionate about USNA than other notable grads like John McCain? McCain went back several times for speaking engagements, was publicly a very proud alum, and requested to be laid to rest there. As far as I know Carter never spoke much about his USNA ties except for a brief chapter in his memoir.

Nothing wrong with it of course, just an interesting observation.

According to a news article I just read, he returned often.

I assume not so much in the last number of years because of his declining health.

Only president to go to USNA. Grant and Eisenhower were the only two that went to SA - WP. Iirc.

Others can correct me.

Let's no forget, McCain was the son and grandson of USNA graduates and four Stars.
