Class of 2015 Application

Junish: (Is that a word? LOL!!!)

About the time that Summer Seminar is over. It's been 3 years since actually looking at the online application, but it was towards the end of June. I remember the application "recommending" having it complete in 45 days. I remember my son and I talking about trying to meet that goal and having it finished by August 1st. That would mean approximately June 15th. FWIW: The application CAN be completed in 45 day, thus opening up you to early appointments and Letters of Assurance. But you have to do your part and be prepared. Which means setting up a lot of the prerequisites prior to getting out of school for the year. If you don't prepare, you probably won't be able to finish the application until around September. (Many requirements in the application need assistance from your teachers and school admin). There are some indebth instructions and advice on the forum on how to get the application done. Best of luck. Mike....

The toughest part of the application during the summer is getting teacher recommendations and other items from your school.

SD Academy Bound, The PreCandidate Questionnaire (PCQ) open on March 31 but you won't actually be able to start your application until Junish like Christcorp said.

DevilDog, I had a horrible time getting my recommendation letters.(The three extra ones they said you could send, as well as, the one for my nominationing sources) I asked my english teacher, math/science teacher, and my cross country/track coach Mid-May and asked that they give them to me when school started in August. My math/science teacher had it ready, my english teacher forgot, and my coach had written an outline for it but still needed to write it. My english teacher got it to me by the end of the week but, my coach didn't get it to me for another 2 months. I understood why though besides being my coach, he was the athletic director, and had a full time job doing consulting work for the Army in which had just been pormoted and had a hugh amount of work to do.

Applications for the USAFA Class of 2015 (entering in June 2011) will open on March 1, 2010.

Remember, the summer seminar application also serves as the pre-candidate questionnaire (PCQ), so if you applied for that, you are ahead of the game :thumb:.

Is this the pre- canidate questionaire? Or the real application that you have to have references for? Also, where can the references forms be found before the application actually opens?

The real application doesn't open until July 1st (at least for 2014). I believe that a couple additional things open up in March, but not the entire application that includes the references, CFA, transcripts, etc.. 2015 does sound a little weird, it just seems like you went in not that long ago.

Oh yeah. I went into school as soon as they opened it back up when the teachers were getting their rooms together. I actually got the written recommendations during junior year for MOCs.

Keep reminding your teachers that they will be getting an email from USAFA. Sometimes it goes in the spam basket, so make sure they don't automatically delete it.

All of my son's teacher's recommendations were done "On-Line". None of them got sent in physically. The academy emailed them; and the teachers submitted the recommendations. I know you can do hard copies, but we didn't do it that way.

Also; he had already spoken with the teachers and school admin in April and May. He had everything lined up so when the application became available on-line, he could proceed. He did Summer Seminar on something like the 14th of June. When he got back, the application opened up on-line about a week later. So it was the last week of june. But this was 3 years ago, so I don't remember the exact date. And he did have his application totally complete by July 19th. But you have to be very proactive. With your teachers; with your ALO; getting your DODMRB medical done; doing the CFA; etc...

The day the on-line application was opened, he looked it over and broke it up into 3 categories. 1) Online stuff: application info, essay, etc... 2) Teacher/school stuff: Transcripts, recommendations, school profile, etc.... 3) ALO/Military stuff: CFA, Interview, DODMRB, etc... He completed 1) the first weekend. Essays and all. He also did the paperwork for his presidential nomination.

That first monday, he went to the school and had them put transcripts, class rank, school profile, etc... all in an envelope. HE MAILED IT OFF. He sealed it in front of the school admin, and dropped it in the U.S. Post office mailbox at the school.

He received the DODMRB card in the mail about a week or two later showing scheduling. He scheduled his physical and eye exam. Took it a week later and had all that sent to DODMRB who in turn updated the records. At the same time, his ALO scheduled him for the CFA. That was done the same week as the physical. And after the CFA, while he was still in sweats, he put on a pair of jeans and a clean t-shirt, and the ALO interviewed him in her office.

At this point, it was hurry up and wait. A week later, the DODMRB showed up as qualified; presidential nomination showed nominated; CFA showed complete; then about the last week of July, his application changed status to "Complete". He then had all of August to enjoy the rest of summer; do 2-a-day football practices; and finish all his other College Early admissions.

When the first day of school started, he looked at me and smiled, and said thanks for pushing him every day. He was done. He could enjoy his senior year. No colleges left to apply to. Nothing left for the academy. Football was in full swing. He could concentrate on school, girlfriend, and football. It was a pretty sweet fall.

I only bring this up to show that if YOU are pro-active and take YOUR future into your hands, you can get the application done early. You don't have to wait until school gets back into session. Even if you had to wait for the teacher's recommendations, you can still get the transcripts, school profile, etc... All schools have days they are open during the summer. And you can be practicing NOW for your CFA. There is no reason in the world to have to wait until the fall to get your CFA done. Your ALO can do it. It doesn't have to be your gym teacher. TAKE CONTROL OVER YOUR FUTURE!!!! Best of luck. Mike.....

Is that the 2015 class greeting?
No, I'm sure it's not. If it is, then it would probably beat 2011's motto for being most made fun of...plus fourth class year would be very depressing having to say "livin' the dream" all the time.

Yeah, it's not. I heard it one time and thought it would be an awesome greeting since it is true for many people.

Interesting, what is the 2011 motto anyway? And who comes up with them? And how do you get assigned into your squadrons for BCT, is it random?

2011's is "endless horizons"...but most will be relectant to tell you. Flight assignments for BCT is mostly random, but they distribute priors and preppies fairly evenly. After basic the entire flight goes into a squadron. No idea who comes up with the mottos though.

Unless I'm mistaken, class mottos aren't decided until BCT....so 2015 isn't even close to having a motto yet, since 2014 isn't even there yet.

I think the first time 2013 heard their "best to be seen" was from the commandant when the entire class was together at their first briefing
