After you receive your Offer of Appt, do you have to respond within so many days?

pretty sure you have til May 1st like most colleges. I know USAFA gives you til then so expect WP does too. Of course if you know you don't want to accept it you should decline quickly so another could be offered your spot.

lol
Needing the time to make the decision is precisely why I'm asking. Thanks for the reminder, though.

I've always been curious about people who declined their appointments...like what school they ultimately chose over WP and why

^^Hahaha guess it depends on which branch you want to be in for 8 years at a minimum of your life.

USMAalltheway

I also wonder why someone would turn down an appointment to the USMA... i mean come on its a world class leadership, educational, and physical education like non other. I knew some one who said they got an appointment, turned it down for a ROTC scholarship because she wanted the run of the mill college expierence. I think she didnt really get the appointment and just likes to say that but still.... who the hell would wanna go to a public university over a SA??????

Anybody who enjoys drinking/partying/not waking up every morning/gobs of other things.

I love the idea of an SA (which is why I'm going ofc) but I would say those of us who are going to an SA next year are probably the crazy ones!

Yes; when I describe what SA life is going to be like- passes, liberty, inspections, plebe duties, CBT, ect- most people say they could not imagine living like that for 4 yrs. SAs are not for everyone.

What exactly ARE plebe duties?

A variety of stuff Plebes have to do like take out everyone's trash, call minutes, clean common areas, deliver laundry, help carry stuff around, and anything else the upperclassmen need to get done.

So, plebes are, in one way, enslaved to upperclassmen?

But look at it this way! Eventually you'll move up, making the plebes under you do the same things you had to once do earlier! It's a giant circle. :thumb:

Thats mean

I dont know how I'll feel more than a year from now, but I feel bad when Im mean to people

It's not being mean. Its a right of passage and teaching them to work together as a class. Pitting them all against one thing is the most effective way to unite a class composed of people from all over the world. It brings unity and teaches discipline. It also allows them to learn the basics (being on time, attention to detail, minor leadership, finding effective ways to do things) in tasks of little important allowing them to make mistakes that don't have adverse effects on the corps.

It was a LOT worse back in the day. Just ask any old grad and they will tell you. But those "mean" tactics back then are what some of the most famous men in history endured and look what it did for them.

You will first learn to follow. Then you will learn to lead. It's not being "mean" but rather holding the Plebes accountable and teaching them discipline and teamwork. America's Finest offers great insight. And of course he's correct that back in old Corps (when men were men and dinosaurs roamed the Plain) everything was harder/tougher/worse!
