Does West Point interview its candidates at all? If yes, under what circumstances?

Right now WP is very short on MALO's as a whole. We were told that if it was possible, we should interview all potential candidates who were considered "competitive", but that it was not a necessary component like AF and Navy have it. Sounds a bit like it's considered kind of just as an extra recommendation letter or similar. I know they use the SLS squad leader interviews as the interview if the candidate attends SLS. We were told (as MALO's) that the only time one would be "required" was if they had some concerns or wanted to check up on something the candidate reported (ie things just didn't seem "right" somehow) or, conversely, if there was a candidate they especially wanted to try to convince to come.

FWIW: We found that our state's West Point Society was a great contact to have. While they don't have inside information like the MALO's do, some of those grads have significant contacts, both at West Point and in goverment. Its not a bad idea to reach out for them early in the process and let them know of your goals.

Aren't interviews a necessary part of the admissions process? Thats what I was told by my sergeant during SLS

Strange...I was told the same thing by my BGO before I withdrew my application from USNA:confused::confused:...she was so insistent on me getting an interview

The service academies are separate entities. While one may require an interview it doesn't mean the others do. I was required to have one for USAFA, just not USMA.

I thought that they were optional however recomended to have, if possible. I also think of the interview as an added reccommendation to your application. Just my take on it...

Here's policy for USMA, USNA, and USAFA as far as interviews for applications:

USMA: recommended, but not required
USNA: required
USAFA: required
