How long does one have to be an enlisted Marine before they can receive a service connected nomination and attend the Naval Academy Prepatory School? Is there a set duration, for example, you have to be in the Fleet for at least 2 years before eligibility apply for your commander's endorsement, etc.?

I don't know. However, there is a senior enlisted in Candidate Guidance who works with current enlisted personnel who want to enter NAPS/USNA. He can answer all of your questions. Someone posted his contact info a few months ago. Hopefully, they'll do so again. If not, call CGO and ask.

There is not a set amount of time for eligibility, it will all rely on your CO. I was still in my training pipeline the first time I applied and my CO didnt hesitate to recommend me.

Any other question relating to prior enlisted ask away, this is my second year applying so I might be able to help. Also chief Ashwood is a great source of knowledge but understand he is very busy and can be hard to catch on the phone. His email is ashwood@usna.edu and as mentioned he is the fleet coordinator.

My squadron's Personnel Office had a junior officer assigned as Education Officer - his job was to help enlisted personnel access the various education programs such as USNA, NROTC, etc. I suspect there is an equivalent position in your unit, and my experience has been that COs are very supportive of their personnel who are trying to improve themselves. A bit of initiative can take you a long way.

Best wishes to you and others in your situation.

You can get a SECNAV nom the day you go to boot camp. For the Marines currently here at NAPs the average time in service is about 3 years. (lowest being 2 years highestbeing around 3 1/2) we had one marine that was picked up out of the wing pipeline, but he DOR'd within 3 weeks. Just make sure this is the path you want to go. It's not easy being a Marine at NAPs or at the academy. as of now there;s only 8 of us here. good luck

I'm curious, why is it so tough for Marines?

As a former Navy Corpsman, the jarheads are INSANE but, if i had to go into battle, I'm going with the Marines!
Their loyalty and tenacity rivals my weimaraners!

Some staff members have a problem with the Marines here. I've been told many times that "you're not a Marine anymore you're a M/C"
there's a severe lack of military discipline.
there's an overall bad attitude here.

It's not that i'm trying to dissuade you from comming here, but know what your getting in to.

I dislike NAPs along with 90% of the marines here, but I'm still working at my goal at getting commissioned. it's a give and take. just remember not give too much.

That really surprises me, most jarheads I knew and associated with were 4 oh squared away.
