I agree, but I'm still keeping my hopes low or manageable. DS has already sent in his CP information for his unit, so we are treating this scholarship as "icing on the cake". A sideload scholarship next year will be our new plan B.

Are the replacements being managed by NSTC, since alternates have been scored in prior boards? Will replacements require another round of board/admiral approval? Thank you.

I believe so yes. I don't think it is a list of alternates that they just go down. They have to consider tier level and I'm sure some other factors from the alternates left for the scholarships they have available right now.

Maybe after the board awards these scholarships they will have a list of alternates for the few scholarships that will come up in the next month or so, but they don't go by a list right now.

Atleast that is what I understand based on my readings here at SAF. I could be incorrect, so take with a grain of salt.

Curious how you set up CP in case you don’t get selected ?
 
So we we haven’t even applied to NSI because we haven’t heard back about scholarship yet. On NETC website looks like we missed the due date to apply. How can this be if we haven’t even been offered scholarship? What should DS do? Can he apply if we get accepted for scholarship this week ?
 
My son seems to be an alternate but he also applied to Ole Miss NROTC CP. Yes you should still apply for CP at his college. Son just got 3rd cycle at NSI. I think the chart says it is actually 30 June to get your pw in to get last cycle. If son gets scholarship then that is great. Do your plan B now while waiting

Your college will have all the required forms they need to enter the NROTC Det at your college. Do the CP in parralel as we all wait the next 10 days. Some medical forms are dif and could take a few days if u need a physical

I didn’t know CPS could go to NSI? I thought it was only for kids who have scholarships.
 
As we sit in the waiting pile, can anyone familiar with VTCC explain to me like I’m 5, because this part is all new to us, does Tech not have a CP status because the Corps supersedes that? You join the military track if your intention is to commission and/or apply for 3yr scholarship? That’s what my son is telling me and I’m trying to get onboard with what’s coming down the track. Also is anyone familiar with the CNRE (college) at Tech? I’m worried about how he’ll pick freshman classes that meet their requirements and also the standard plebe like math, physics etc ones that would help a scholarship application. This is obviously his deal but I just feel clueless.
 
Making friends in the waiting pile! While I do not know the answers to your questions, my DS will be at VTCC in the fall.

His best bet is to reach out to the unit directly. They deal with this all the time and are best to advise him. Not familiar with VT but A&M anyone in ROTC is automatically in the Corp. If a CP, may have to actually apply for entry into the ROTC program (A&M ROTC is that way). Even as a scholarship candidate, may still have to actually apply to the program. So call the Unit.

You have to go to NSI before the scholarship kicks in. Most Cpers at NSI are rising sophmores who got a 3 year scholarship awarded. Some units are able to send incoming freshman CPers to NSI. From what I've gleaned on SAF, it seems to depend on space at NSI and if unit wants/can spend funds to get these freshman CPers to NSI. Really a case by case basis.

My DS sent his CP application in early hoping that will increase the chance of going to NSI as a CP. Can't hurt to try.

Does the CP process also includes DoDMERB? Thank you.
 
At least with Ole Miss a CP doesn’t do DODMERB until they get on scholarship. My son is going to NSI in July but he was confirmed a CP in January. I believe the cutoff for CPs to sign up for NSI is June 30. Something we found out is NSI uses a different physical form that Ole Miss so we are hoping the doctor will just transfer the data to new form. We r Tricare so it takes a few weeks to get an appointment.

I would call the Det at your college. DS received an email with the NSI date this July from his college. Then you would know your college det policy.
 
If a student is medically DQ’ed for the Scholarship and has to wait for a waiver, can they still participate as a CP?

He received a call from his unit a few days after sending it to ask him some questions and to confirm they have it. He was planning on reaching out at end of month if he didn't hear anything.
