Hi, do new cadets have to fill out medical forms like those entering civilian colleges? To verify vaccination, etc? With the going over DS got from Dodmerb, I can't imagine he needs another physical, but will make an appointment if forms from doc will be required.

additional question

How are prescription meds handles. Nothing big, just acne stuff. Do they get to keep taking it? Do we need to send it or does USAFA provide?

It is my understanding from other posts that there is documentation our kids need to bring. The list will be sent with the "what to bring for I-Day" packet. Birth cert and/or passport and immunizations forms are on the list. As for prescriptions, Mr Mullens from DoDMERB informed me that prescriptions will be taken over by the cadet clinic so not to worry. You won't need to send meds.:thumb:

what about the weekly disposable contact lenses. I know they were these ray bans at boot camp but what about after?

They take any non-essential medication on inprocessing day, so acne meds will be discarded. After acceptance you can go down to the clinic to get represcribed.

You can wear contacts after basic and I would recommend it. As for paperwork, everyone fills out the same stuff, so each flight has separate briefings during basic with someone telling them how to fill out the medical info.

Before you go to BCT, you'll have TONS of paperwork to fill out. Get it done early.

I am fairly certain basic cadets are not permitted to wear contacts at BCT. They get to wear those nice glasses, which are commonly known as Birth Control Devices, or something. Figure it out; look at some old pictures. You'll see why they're called that.

I thought current use of an acne prescription (Accutane) results in a DODMERB DQ?

He's not taking Accutane, just an antibiotic. He will probably have some breakouts if he's off it but I don't think he'll be alone. He also heard the sunscreen that the basics are given causes breakouts.

He should bring it, then. I think they will look at every prescription and re-issue those they deem necessary.

mom14: Just a sidebar note. Everyone is different, so take this as just a "Whatever" statement. Depending where you're from, some youth's acne is affected by their climate/environment. I grew up in New Jersey, with 98% humidity. I was always breaking out. "Didn't use medicine back then; just dealt with it". However, when I came out to New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, etc... the dry climate practically cleared it up over night. Even winters are dry. I thought I was just outgrowing it, "Which in time I did"; but when I went back home a couple times for vacation, I started to break out again. "Slightly". So, you never know. He might just get to 7000 feet and dry, and clear up. Now, if you happen to come from dry and high, then totally disregard. Just something I've noticed with some teens.
