can anyone tell me what the status is about musical instruments in the barracks during plebe year? my brother (a cow) said that people had them, but i was wondering for any more specifics: i.e., can they be brought, where are they stored, when can they be played, etc.

thanks

(btw i've been playing guitar, especially classical guitar, for 10 years)

Yes, you can have them as long as you find somewhere to store them like under your bed or in the trunk room. You can play them as long as you don't disturb anyone so you'd probably only be playing it on weekends. :thumb:

Your brother didn't tell you all this?

Hey that's great, classical guitar! I'm a classical guitar Professor in Colorado, glad to help with one possible scenario: You might consider buying a "Soloette", a strange beast of a classical but you can practice and keep your chops up w/o affecting your roommates. Good luck, my son is waiting as well, currently in ROTC.

A warning: the approved packing list for R Day includes a musical instrument. BUT when I asked an RC in the admissions office, there was a little backpedalling from the list about having to carry it around all day on R Day before the easiest recommendation-to ship it in time for A Day.

Bring it, during Beast you may be in the talent show. Once classes start and there is little down time, the plebes like playing together on weekends and on getaways.

If you are so inclined, I believe there is also the opportunity to play in an orchestra at mass during Beast.
