I wanted to know is the last day of the application process? Tommorrow or today, I have things that are not vertified by my officer and wanted to know? Thank you.

I can't give an answer, but I have to ask, why on G*d's green earth did you wait until the very last second?

Even if you are enlisted, (note you said my officer), you should realize that to get an officer to sign off and fax on the same day is not an easy feat. Their job is to do whatever your org. is tasked with, writing a rec, or signing off on command sponsor goes to the bottom of the pile compared to dealing with a 10 turn 6 and only being able to deliver a 8 turn 4. You should know you are in charge of your own career, and you should never place it down to the last second. Only exception I could see is if you are/were in the sandbox for the last 6 mos.

If you are JROTC, than you have officially learned a lesson regarding the military. YOUR CAREER is in YOUR HANDS, don't expect the military to hold your hand and walk you through it. The minute you show up and you are 18, the folks can't help you out of the jam, because they see you as an adult, not a teenager. Maxwell will not talk to the folks about changing your summer assignment, nor will the AFA. It is all up to you!

I know that might sound cruel, but if you wanted the AFA bad enough you would not be asking if admission files close in 2 hours or in 26 hours. You would have had this done.

BTW I also question where was your ALO in this process? Did he just call you up on Friday to remind you, or have you ignore his phone calls until Friday?

I wish you the very best if you get accepted, but I hope you realize through this lesson that procrastination will kill you at the AFA and in the AF.

I agree with what Pima said. Although, I am not sure if the deadline is March 1st (meaning up to March 1st) or if it is up to and including March 1st. Either way, try to get it done tonight just incase..

I would ASSUME and we all know what that means, that it has to be in by COB 3/1 Colorado Time...if you are in AK, you are boffed because you lose time.

It is late EST, but my suggestion is 1st thing in the a.m. call your ALO every 15 minutes. Find out from them, maybe you are not missing anything. By 10 a.m. I would be sitting in your CO's office with paperwork in hand, don't assume that they know where your file is, bring your copies of what was asked for. To this date I still have the personal recs for our DS's MOC noms. You will learn quickly you never throw anything out and you always make copies when it comes to the military.

How is everything good when you stated that you needed things signed off? Why can't you wait until tomorrow, is it anticipation that you think this process is over or to get the officer to sign off?

I am simply stating that tommorrow, I call my admissions officer to make sure those items are signed off, once that happens all is good, while I prepare for summer. It's quite difficult to write a complete thought when everyone is yelling, I have had enough of that last month from my father, Air Force enlistee. Everything works out in the end.:thumb: Thanks though for your encouraging words.

Your Dad might be yelling, but he is yelling because he knows how the AF operates. It is heard to hear/read, but the fact is he knows the system, and wants the best for you...he is not trying to be an ogre.

If you submitted your scores than you are good to go!

Again listen to your Dad, not as a parent, but a military member giving you advice who knows the system. The fact that you stated Dad was on your butt for a month says a lot, more than you know. You are young, and I respect that, but respect this, if you think Dad was on you, you have seen nothing yet...Dad is a cake walk, BCT instructors have no paternal love for you. AFA profs have no problem placing you on academic probation because you didn't hand in your report on time.

Not everyone is meant for the rigors of the SA's. YOU have to want it for yourself, and only yourself. That will be the only way you will survive.

I have had only a few post glimpse into you, but I do have questions. Most candidates who are in it for themselves have their files completed a long time ago. Many times the military child does it for the folks, and they drag their feet completing the file. It is sad, but true, some military children believe that if they want to go military this should be the route to make the folks proud. Sadder fact is they never talk to the folks. Our DS opted the full ride AFROTC because we sat him down and forced him to say his dreams of college. We had just as many fears about him going AFA as he did, probably more. When he knew we were fine with ROTC and thrilled that he choose this path, a weight was taken off of our family. He wants to make the AF his career (20 yrs+), but he needed this time to be him, to make friends that were not AF or knew him as Bullet's son (15E WSO). He knew that for the next 20 yrs he would be gone away from home, and IMHO, he wanted these last fleeting moments to be near us before he had to go (he is 1 1/2 hrs by car compared to 4 hrs by plane). Additionally, he knew that because his Dad flew fighters as an ROTC graduate, that the AFA was not his only option, because the AFA will make you into a great officer, but that means squat when it comes to handling the stick at UPT.

The point is we were silent because we thought that the AFA was his dream. He was silent because he thought it was ours!

FYI if you ever want to know anything about the 35, my Bullet (DH) is the one to ask, he works on it at the Pentagon.

I actually want to attend the United States Naval Academy, I ultimately will go wherever the coin flips I do not really care what branch, my goal is to serve, I also am in college right now, it has helped me want the school more, I have had more problems with stacking 18 credits and two jobs then the applications. My father just wants me to do whatever I want to do. There is definitely many challenges that await me on the horizon, lucky I spent a year to get here so there is no other option except enlisting which I would end up still applying. I think about the end and try not to get flidded down with the in between because it's mind over matter, if you don't mind it don't matter. If any of that made sense?

Did you apply for ROTC scholarships?

Honestly you will care which branch you serve if you get pilot since that is 8 yrs+ of your life. The 35 will be in the Navy and the AF, but honestly and realistically, you will not see it until the end of your 8 yr commitment. It is not even in the inventory yet...I should know I am married to the guy who is heavily involved with the 35, he is so deep in it that I am sure he can tell you the thread that they use on the seats.

People say it is a coin toss and I don't care which branch. I worry when they say that, because at the end of the day you belong to the branch, and they can do whatever they want to you! You want to fly and graduate to low to qual out of USMA, I hope you like tanks! Too low to qual for flying out of USNA, I hope you like boats! Too low to qual out of USAFA hope you like Intel or Missiles.

24/7/365 for 5 yrs is a long time to say I don't care, I just want to serve. Call me a cynic, but if you truly don't care whether you are in a tank on a boat or flight line, than I think you are giving the pat answer and not being truthful. I know from Bullet and our DS (AF 2012) neither of them would want to be the PA officer in the Navy or sitting in a tank in the sandbox. As a military child you should realize that the military says "GO" and you have no other option, but to GO! You can't say, "well, I really don't want to be an MP at Prince Al's Garage, how about you let me be an MP at Aviano instead, or the Azores works too?"

Yes, but as a college student I only have SMP from the Army. I only applied for Army, my goal was to be in the service academy or enlist(period) I didn't see the ROTC life was the life for me.

It's not exactly a pat answer I want to go to USNA. But after experiencing what other branches do then that sounds fun. Your judging very superficial now, I do NOT care much about aviation, if I did I would have a statical better chance to just go Air National guard and do blue-21(CG), Air national guard/reserve slots, etc...but I would care but in the end IT DOES NOT matter to me, because there are so many options through every branch, USMA, 1st choice Aviation, 2nd Chemical branch. USNA 1st choice SNA, 2nd SUB, 3rd NFO USAFA Pilot, navigator, engineering branch. USCGA, 1st. Aviation 2nd. Engineering. I have spent an entire year searching for the golden choice but I have realized that USNA first, USMA second, USAFA third, USCGA 4th, USMMA 5th. An engineering student is my major now, and will be at the Academies. Hard work will help too, it is the services' needs first then your needs then your wants, The mighty triangle. It's funny I know the risks and accept them, the military itself is risking and must be taken seriously.

This is one of those Catch-22's that there's no way of resolving. We see a few posters who come to the board in the sophomore or even freshman year of high school asking tons of questions. But that is such a small amount. The vast majority of people who apply to the academy, and visit this forum, do so almost at the last minute. Many come to the forums in their senior year of high school. Now that's not to say that this forum is the authority on applying to the academies. It's definitely a wealth of information, but it's not the end all of authority. I know how many people, on average, frequent this forum and "That other place". And that is only a small fraction of those applying. So obviously, a lot of people get accepted to the academies without any experience or knowledge from these forums. But I will say that in my opinion, people who visit these forums have a "Better Chance" of getting accepted than if they didn't frequent here.

So pilot-2016, I'm sure that everything will work out with your application process. I'm sure it will. But I'm hoping that some of those Freshman and Sophomores who have shown an interest; as well as those on here who have applied for Summer Seminar; learns from every thread and most on this forum. You all know my position on applying to the air force academy. If it's something that you've wanted, and you've frequented this forum; (You must have or you wouldn't be reading this post); then you know that I believe that there isn't 1 reason in the world.... SORRY, NOT 1 REASON.... why your application can't be 100% completed by 1 August. Yes, there are outside individuals involved, such as teachers, school admin, ALO, DODMRB, and the CFA. But if you were to start TODAY: 1 March 2010 (For you Juniors who will be applying to the academy in June/July); then there is absolutely no reason why it can't be 100% completed by 1 August 2010. I've seen way too many applicants do it. So those coming up on applying, please learn from these threads/posts. If you do it right, you can have your application to the academy, as well as ALL the colleges that you want to attend, in and completed by the time school starts in August/September. And then you can have your entire senior year to enjoy, and to maintain your grades. Instead of the added stress of applying to colleges and the academy. And in case you don't get into the academy, you'll have plenty of time then to work out the financials to go to one of the schools that did accept you.

And for all of you 2014 appointees; (Those already with an appointment, as well as those who will find out shortly). We really need you to continue visiting this forum. Regulars like Cand, raimus, pdub, potter, and many others are the ones who have given you some of the best 1st hand information you could ever receive. Yes, there are people like Flieger, pima, bullet, marciemi, fencersmom, and plenty of other ALO, Alumni, Parents, etc... that can also provide valuable information. But it's the current cadets that keep this forum current and alive. And many of them will be graduating in 3 months. So you new appointees: "Yes BSA, you're one of them. LOL!!!!" We, and especially the applicants for the class of 2015+, really need you. We all know how tough BCT and classes will be. But once you get started with classes, try and contribute an hour or two a week.

Anyway, pilot-2016, it sounds like everything is in, and just has to have your application updated. And as long as they've received everything, you will be fine. It could take the counselors a couple more days to get everything annotated. Definitely call them and make sure that EVERYTHING is in. Call them first thing in the morning. And if anything is missing, you do EVERYTHING, and call EVERYONE, that you need to to get it completed. And being you're in college, if that means skipping a class to get to wherever so you can fax/email whatever it is that needs doing, then do it. Best of luck to you. Mike......

You actually believe the ANG will then say if you want to fly we can do it?

If you do, I have a beautiful piece of property in Florida, don't mind the fact that the land doesn't dry completely.

ANG get their Pilots and WSO's from washbacks or Palace Chase...you have about as much chance flying with an ANG as a 2nd Lt., as I have! Do you actually believe that ANG pilots have no military experience or AC experience, you can have one or the other, but not neither.

my goal was to be in the service academy or enlist(period) I didn't see the ROTC life was the life for me.

Finally, let me get this correctly, you are willing to give 4 yrs to any SA to be commissioned. but are unwilling to go ROTC scholarship (get a college degree on the military dime with a stipend and be commissioned). Instead you would enlist. WOW! That is all I can say...actually I need to say WOW again and asked if you are doing drugs? You would be willing to cut your salary 50%+ to be an enlisted member AD instead of an ROTC scholarship commission? Honestly, if that is how your brain works, than okay.

They also hire within their units if I am correct. From the DC 113th unit that I interviewed that the ones that recieved pilot slots were from within, there were some active duty palace chasers. The current commander of the 113th fighter wing enlisted in the unit for 4 months and recieved the slot. once again I must say my ultimate goal is to serve not fly, anyway later on I can fly civilian. Remembering that life is never perfect, I do realize that my dream could be taken away in an instance, If I am remember you had a buddy who played football and got a hernia and resulted him from being medically qualified to continue flying? If you know what SMP is it is a ROTC program for army national guardsman when you graduate you will be an army officer in the National guard. Not wanting to do NROTC or AFROTC has made me think about why not, for me it's completely about the different experience.

I do want to go to bed soon, I have worked all day, and have worked out and I have class in the afternoon tommorrow, thank you for all your time and effort I will look back at the information you provided and analyze what I need. My orginal goal was to ask about 1st but was drawn into a long debate that has wrecked my time management, we can continue this discussion over PM Pima. I just can't spend too much time right now.

Yeah, one of the most patriotic forms of appriecation for your hard work is by voting, because you have sacrificed SOOO much so that our way of life is protected from foreign and domestic enemies.

Thanks Pima, you seem to be bashing me now.

You have to realize that I stated enlisting in the Air National Guard/National Guard so about 75% less than active duty. I am not on drugs. The time required to inform you of my plans effectively without communication barriers would require a massive amount of time, but from looks you can only judge which means almost nothing.
