My status for SS was pending for a couple months now probably due to my average PSAT scores (65 CR, 61 M). However 2 weeks ago I received notification from the American Legion that I was accepted into Keystone Boys State. I updated my file and surprisingly it was what I needed to gain acceptance. Thankfully I was in the computer lab when I received the email, so I accepted it 15 minutes after the email was sent to me. There was only ONE spot left for Session C, and I was the one to take it.

The week after SS is Boys State and the week before is SLS which I have not yet been accepted to. If I attend SS then I would have to miss maybe the last one to two days of school. This would not be a problem, but if I get accepted to SLS then I would have to reschedule finals for an earlier week.

Definitely congratulations. Good for you. Definitely will be a busy summer. My son's was the opposite schedule. He had to take finals his junior year of school 2 days early, because boy's state started the last day of school. 2 days after boy's state, he was at summer seminar. 2 days after summer seminar, he had visits to 3 colleges. 2 days after getting back, he started football practice. I think he literally has 2 weeks of real summer vacation.

Use this opportunity at summer seminar to learn and experience all you can. Use it as a catalyst when you get home to immediately start your application process. Prior to summer vacation, boy's state, and summer seminar; make sure that you hook up with your teachers, school admin, counselors, and ALO. It is going to be difficult to get a hold of some of these people in June/July. You're going to need transcripts, school profile, letters of recommendations from teachers, fitness test coordinated through your ALO or via a Gym teacher. You don't want to wait until September to get your application started because you couldn't reach any of these people. Ask questions, search this forum, and prepare ahead of time. Congrats again. Job well done. mike....

So christcorp what all has to be done prior to school letting out in preperation for actually applying?

Just got off the phone with USAFA re summer session. I was told there were ~2900 applicants for 1110 total slots. Not only did the numbers increase, but the quality of the applicants is also stronger, thus it is more competitive in addition to the geographical factors. As of today, there are still 350 slots still open, but that number will decrease with ongoing acceptances. Any application post 10 Feb (such as ours) will be reviewed this week or next and emails should be sent out by Saturday 13 Feb. If no email, expect to get a letter in the US Mail. I am not sure why they don't send out all notices via email.

I had actually applied December 18 and my file was reviewed the same time as the first files were. I was under consideration for quite some time.

I was actually surprised at the number of applicants, for some reason I thought it would be in the 5-6,000 range.

You, mtnman. This is a topic all unto itself. I recommend starting a NEW thread entitled something like: "What is the application process" or something similar. This would be an excellent time for many of the new appointees; current cadets; some of the ALO's; and others who contribute on this forum to get 1 REALLY GOOD THREAD done on the entire process. This could then become a STICKY. And I know that some of the appointees like BSA has copied and pasted into their own mega-document some really great info.

Anyway, I don't want to take away from this Summer Seminar thread. Start one as I mentioned, and we can get all your info you need. mike....

Done.

I have a question... i accepted the summer seminar offer but recently found out i could not attend because i was accepted into west point sls which is my first choice. is it too late to call and ask them to cancel my acceptance? i cant attend both of them even thought i would love to

I would call ASAP - the sooner you call, the sooner they can give the slot to someone else. They obviously can't make you go; however, if you've already paid, I wouldn't think they'd be likely to give the money back! You could always call and ask.
