What is the likelyhood of being on a back up list for USNA??? We got a Nom to USMMA and while that could be an option DS only put down that he wanted USNA, did not list any other option.....anyone????

The same thing happened to my son. He also got a senator nomination for MMA. He was required to rank on his application, and only wanted AFA, so randomly put MMA second. In his interview, he clearly told them that he was only interested in AFA. I called (hoping it was a mistake) and was told he was close, but not in top 10 for AFA. It was a nice honor, and in the paper, but he didn't even submit an application to MMA. He did get another nomination for AFA, but still has not received an appointment. Good luck!

To the one above I hope he gets in. I got a AFA nomination, and others, now I am trying to send in recommendaitons for USMMA so that I may get a nomination from other states that have not filled their quote. :/ I have all the duckies lined up.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

Nominees must reside in the state or territory that the nominating official represents.

I ran into this problem myself. I was nominated by my congressman for USMA. At the time I had an LOA contingent upon a nomination from an MOC. I contacted USMMA and explained the situation. They said to get in touch with members of Congress from other districts in your state and explain the situation. In the end I received a nomination from a congressman and now have an appointment to USMMA for the Class of 2014. If you have any questions PM me. Good Luck!!

db10-

How did you go about contacting the other congressmen? What did you say? I am in the same situtation - received USAFA - put USNA.

I just faxed a short letter and resume to the other MOC's in my state and eventually received one. But that was for USMMA and I believe it is different for the other academies. Contact USNA for more info. Good Luck!

Correct, it is only allowable for USMMA. A MOC from any of the Congressional districts in a state may nominate anyone from that state for USMMA.

For USMA, USNA, and USAFA, you MUST reside in the Congressman's district.

So Luigi does that mean since I do not have nomination to USMMA, is it possible for me to go there??

No. You must have a Congressional nomination for the USMMA to legally appoint you.

They do not use Presidential, Vice-Presidential, ROTC/JROTC, MOH, or any other service-affiliated nominations.

Luigi - how does it work? I have never gotten my head aroung the MMA method.
When you go to their website they say they appoint about 275/year.
But in the CRS Report for Congress (page 6) - they list the states and quotas from each state and this adds up to 223.
What if a state doesn't use their quota?
