Since we all cant get into USNA but some of us would like to do nrotc, what are the civilian colleges with a reputation of having good NROTC programs?

Any of the state maritime schools are great too, especially if you want a job at sea afterwards.

Goddard12,

While we do not host NROTC - we have a good reputation for educating/training Navy Officers.

I encourage you to visit our website and Twitter pages listed below and contact me if you have questions.

i was looking more towards the 'normal' colleges. ive heard that Vanderbilt and Notre dame have good nrotc programs. is there any evidence to support this

Not sure. Post this again in the ROTC part. You'll get more answers there probably

Goddard12,

Understood. The vast majority of high school students will attend "normal" colleges...that is what makes service academies/state maritime academies "abnormal!"

This thread;

may assist you. You will see some of the best colleges/universities in the nation listed on that thread.

I wish you well with your college search.

There are only about 75 NROTC colleges in the US. You could start by searching for those that have the majors you are interested in as some schools may not. Then narrow it down by preferred location. Where are you from? We are from Maryland, so my son's search was mainly east -- everything from Vermont down to Florida. That narrowed the choices significantly just with those 2 criteria. It did not take long for him to widdle it down to the 5 he selected for the NROTC scholarship.

Here is the list by state. Hope this is a good starting point.

ROTC schools

I have been told that Villanova University has a GREAT reputation with NROTC. When I visited with them, they told me that they have graduated the most admirals in the Navy, next to the Academy of course. This was my second choice before I got my acceptance from USNA.

I served with a bunch of "Domers" (ND guys). As a general rule, really good people. Love 'em except once a year during the Navy-ND game. And, after winning 2 of the last three, they are likely to be a little more humble...:thumb:

The NROTC schools are generally really good schools (the website says 160 schools http://www.navy.com/careers/nrotc/colleges/), and we don't have as many as the Army of USAF. Not every State U has NROTC.
