    Best ROTC programs

Hands down Boston College. Amazing school, campus, ROTC cadre, and overall experience. Good luck!

Likelihood of scholarship without Varsity sports

I'm certainly not an expert here, as my daughter (ROTC winner) and son (USCGA) are both athletes. But, at USCGA, the kids put on wonderful musicals, are in a cappella groups, and showcase their performing arts talents in a variety of ways. The academies need all kinds of kids and I agree with...

    Anxiety About Going

My daughter had the same fears before she completed her USNA application. A few weeks after she decided not to finish the application, she came to us with the ROTC idea. It gave her more freedom to have a regular college experience, while trying out the military. She absolutely loved her...

Academy Experience Program for Scholar Appointees

My son did CGAS last year, and I agree with what ProudMom7 said. My suggestion would be enjoy your senior year and keep your head down and grades up next year at whichever Prep school they assign you. Your freshman year at the academy won't start for over a year and a half, so a trip now seems...

    Enlisted to Prep School?

Has he considered USCGA? Coast Guard has a higher percentage of pilots in the officer corps than even Air Force. Have him take a look at the mission of the Coast Guard. Applying to 2 academies might be better than 1? My son did the CG prep school, and I'd highly recommend it.

    Consortium question

My daughter is a AROTC recent grad of BC. She was a nursing major. I can NOT say enough about the school and the program. The cadre were remarkable, her fellow cadets (although a small program) were smart, hard working, kind, and devoted, and the school is fabulous and fun. She had so many...

    Eagle Port Visits?

During Swab Summer, what is the port call schedule like? Will my swab have time to visit with us? He gets on the boat on a Saturday. Will he be required to be on the boat the whole time before it leaves the port? How do i connect with him?

    Passport Issue

With COVID, all government offices are backlogged and behind. I'm sure the academy understands this and expects some cadets will have difficulty with government issued documents. Our son, a CGAS student, applied for his this time last year and it took 7 months, expedited.

    Appointment to CGAS

My son is a CGAS student this year at MMI. I am by no way an expert here, and others may have a different opinion. But my opinion is the admission department will assign your son or daughter based on certain criteria only known to them. Yes, they ask for the student's preference, but I think...

    USCGAS Thread

I am glad your daughter decided to join the other USCGA scholars. I know it was unsettling for my son at first, and he didn't know how to answer the all too often question, "Where are you going?" But after he made the decision and got comfortable explaining the Prep School, I think the nerves...

    USCGAS Thread

Hi momoftwo. I can hear the questions in your head, and I'm sure they are the same questions we had back in December when our son was given the USCGAS offer. To clarify, I am not at all an expert here, just a mom. We were confused and I'll say a little disappointed with the Scholar offer. But my...
