    AROTC Stipend Question

My son is going an extra year for engineering as well. His scholarship was extended and he was told he would also receive the stipend.

    4 Years On a 3-Year Scholarship

My son did not get a 4-yr scholarship, so he joined the Army Reserves and went to BCT right after HS graduation so he could do SMP. While there, we received notification he was awarded a 3-yr scholarship. His Reserves pay helped cover that first year of college. He ended up staying in the...

    Guaranteed Reserves After Graduation

Thanks for the info on GBR, that might be a great option.

    Guaranteed Reserves After Graduation

Ok, now it makes sense when my son said he has to pick a branch. I found a list that shows there are different training places for BOLC for the different branches. Thank you, I didn't know this was the next step after commissioning.

    Guaranteed Reserves After Graduation

Ok, thank you, that's good to know. I haven't heard of the Officer Basic Course. So this is in addition to everything else he's done (BCT & AIT, ROTC and LDAC?)

    Guaranteed Reserves After Graduation

Our son didn't get a 4-yr scholarship, so we went to Plan B and he joined the Reserves to do SMP. Later he was offered a 3-yr scholarship, which he accepted, and it was converted into the GRFD. So he didn't have to do anything extra or different than going through the 4-yr scholarship process.

    Guaranteed Reserves After Graduation

As my son gets closer to graduation in the next couple years, I realize I don't know how the whole Reserves Officer thing works. He is SMP with the Reserves, and took the GRFD scholarship. His current unit is near his college. So what happens after graduation? Does he become an officer in...

ROTC MS Class Conflicts with Required Class for Major

Our son ran into conflicts as well. Ended up taking Physics crammed into a summer semester to get it in. Not a great option, but it worked.

A couple of questions about SMP

Agreed, Clarksonarmy knows his stuff. Our personal experience is our son joined the Reserves end of senior year, did Split Option with BCT that summer and AIT the following. Contracted SMP beginning of his sophomore year. He was actually offered a 3-yr AD scholarship while in BCT, so in the...

    AROTC SMP advantages pitfalls?

Many good points already made here. Our son is SMP and scholarship and it's been a juggling act. He did split option so BCT was one summer, with AIT the next. Luckily he contracted, but we were also under the impression that was guaranteed, but things change all the time and we were greatly...

"I got your name from the Army ROTC NON Selection LIST" say what??

When our son applied for the 4-yr scholarship 2 years ago, it was the day after he left for basic training that summer when the official letter came saying he didn't get the scholarship. Thank goodness we were already doing Plan B of Reserves/SMP. But then halfway through basic traning (last...

    Split Option Question/ SMP

Yes, our son did BCT at Ft. Jackson 2 summer's ago in the record heat. Very miserable. Same thing - started right after HS graduation, with just a couple days to spare at the end before college starts. It works, but it's tight and you pray there is no injury or reason he gets delayed. He did...

    Summer Semester

Follow up for anyone in the same situation: My son has Army Tuition Assistance ($4,500/year) because he's in the Reserves. We have not used it this year because of his 3-Yr AD scholarship. He's taking a class this summer, so we submitted it to Army TA. They require a form signed indicating...

    Split Option Question/ SMP

My son was able to join Reserves in March his senior year of high school. He did basic training that summer split option, so AIT was the following summer. He contracted SMP the fall of his sophomore year. MOS 88M is one where AIT fits in during the summer. It didn't matter which MOS since...
