    Anxious mom seeks advice

I used to manage the NUPOC program, and created this site to summarize it as best I could for potential applicants and their parents. Hopefully it will help you and others who may be interested. https://nupocaccessions.blogspot.com/

    OCS question

If you're in a STEM major and open to nuclear-focused billets, I'd strongly recommend you look into the NUPOC program. It's a much better deal that the academies and NROTC in a lot of cases. Much more info is here: https://nupocaccessions.blogspot.com than is available on any of the Navy.com...

Random Question - Washington Post Cartoon from King Hall Food Shortages circa 2006-2007.

Hi all, I remember the scarce meals pretty well and thought the cartoon was hilarious. I was reminded of it recently and wanted to find and save it. The cartoon was of a Midshipman standing in front of Gate 1 (or Gate 3; don't recall), looking forlorn, and holding a sign saying "Will Serve...

    Likelyhood to get on subs?

He could also consider NUPOC. Check out https://nupocaccessions.blogspot.com ---- that way he can choose to interview specifically for submarines and not have any risk of another community if he doesn't want it.

Navy ROTC College Program vs. OCS

I'm not active on here often, but I check in once a month or so. To answer your question, your major is looked at but is not critical to being selected for NUPOC. You must have completed two semesters each of Calculus and Calculus-based physics (irrespective of major) prior to coming to our...

Alternative to ROTC/USNA: Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC)

The second link in the original post (https://nupocaccessions.blogspot.com). Goes over most of the details like that fairly thoroughly and contains a FAQ section as well that I update periodically.

Alternative to ROTC/USNA: Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC)

By all means high school students who might be interested should put the program on their radar to help inform their college choices, but NUPOC can only pay students for a maximum of 30 months which correlates to November / December of Sophomore year. An application can be started earlier...

Alternative to ROTC/USNA: Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC)

In that case, we would not be able to bring them into the program. We make a point of not cannibalizing ROTC students unless they are not going to be able to obtain a scholarship / contract.

Alternative to ROTC/USNA: Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC)

NavyHoops. Yes and no. From our program authorization: "Former USNA and NROTC midshipmen of either the scholarship or college programs who have received pay entitlements, subsistence allowance, tuition, or fees under the provisions of these programs are eligible but may not be placed on...

Alternative to ROTC/USNA: Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC)

5Day, We are unable to bring students to interview if they have / are receiving money for school from another commissioning program (incl. ROTC) We do bring students who are drilling with a ROTC unit but are not on scholarship. Best, Brian

Alternative to ROTC/USNA: Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC)

Hi all, I'm a 2010 USNA Graduate and submarine officer who manages NUPOC Accessions for the Navy. NUPOC is an alternative commissioning source to ROTC and USNA that functions quite differently and focuses on engineers and other STEM majors (predominantly, but not exclusively). The program...
