Is information gained from Facebook groups found elsewhere?

Over PS, Company FB page for the class was a good source of photos. Beyond that, FB pages were not particularly informative or useful.

Quitting high school sports to spend time to train for CFA

Yes, not continuing her sports will look bad. As a senior, she should be seeking leadership roles on her teams. The CFA performance/training is simply something that will require her to add onto her (I imagine) already difficult schedule. The SAs want young women and men who can, in some ways...

    SLE Denials this year

Unfortunate. Recognizing that SLE is a "recruitment" tool, one can only hope the turn downs for it don't end up hurting USMA's chance to bring in the type of great candidates that you are speaking of. Perhaps USMA's loss will be Navy's gain this coming cycle because of the experience they end up...

Are USMA Admission Information Meetings useful?

My two cents. Attend. Face time with a Regional Commander, interaction with Cadets and FFRs, and possibly folks affiliated with your MOC can be invaluable and provide insights that just cannot be gained by reading. At some point during the application process, the additional information and...

    Tesla or EV auto anyone?

When I last did the math, it didn't sensibly, from a value perspective, allow for me to purchase of an EV. Perhaps there will come a day when it will make better economic sense. And, hopefully, the range of these vehicles and charging time will make sense for our relatively long drives by then...

    Division I atheltics

I don't see why we would think of the D1 athlete as "eating up" a part of the class. In my mind, there is no reason to believe that D1 athletes are an inferior part of each enrolled class. Indeed, on the contrary, a D1 athlete, likely brings some superior physical traits. And, I don't think we...

Ukraine Aid & House Speaker's Son USNA C/O 2028 Appointment

The speculation of nepotism (assuming that is what this is) seems unfair. USNA has, at least, some control over its offers of appointment even in instances of a PNOM. And, even if he got a PNOM, it would not mean that he had not earned it (or tell us who gave it to him). Assuming CNN got it...

USNA Color Vision Waiver Agreement- Marine Ground?

What jumped out at me about this is that your DS or DD may desire to go USMC Ground when service selection is upon him/her. If s/he is not open to the possibility of that happening, he should re-think. Not everybody gets their first or second choice. And, in a few years, this may be his/her...

Administering Commissioning Oath - Wear Judicial Robe or Not?

My vote is no robe. No need to make your position a central issue at the commissioning ceremony. The important thing was your military service, not your service in the federal judiciary. Plus, it'll be hot out - so why put on the robe.

    Changes to SA Nominations

Worth noting that the other significant amendment seems to be the increase to 200 from 150 in order of merit from “qualified alternates.” This may be of equal importance to candidates coming from highly competitive districts/states.

2/C at USNA with Eczema - Report or No?

For about the millionth time, I realized that I missed @Capt MJ when I reviewed post #12 above. I suspect that MIDN never got it wrong when following her advice! We are lucky to be able to dig out her posts.

    Changes to SA Nominations

This is good news for all candidates, but especially those coming from highly competitive districts. I assume that the statutes for for each of the DoD SAs has similar amended language. This certainly makes the work of MOCs easier and gives them the opportunity to appear to help more of their...

    Changes to SA Nominations

I haven't seen any statutory amendment that permits a MOC to nominate more than 10 for a slate. I'm not saying it is impossible for a change to take place, but until I see a statute that permits this, I'll be skeptical.

    Reasons to Go USNA……besides flying

@Just Dad and @Devil Doc, Your example of how to resolve things is just one more reason you are both so valuable to this site. Thanks.
