    Highly Competitive University v. USNA

Thanks for the input! And does anyone have any 1st hand, or somewhat direct insight to whether being an academy grad helps out inside the service? And FWIW, the other school is MIT Regarding summers, from the snippets I've heard, I believe ROTC guys get atleast part of the summer off...

    Highly Competitive University v. USNA

So I'm sure this question has been raised by plenty of people before, but I couldn't find any recent threads. Either responses, or suggestions for search keywords would be greatly appreciated. Sooo, I've been accepted to USNA and a very strong engineering school. I've been offered an...

    LOA Received!

Had my 1st interview (senator #1) last tuesday, have senator #2 tomorrow, and congresswoman sometime early Dec. And ends up they thought I was CA-49 rather than PA-13 (I guessed wrong about which CA district it was). When do most MOC announce/submit their nominations? And how long does it...

    LOA Received!

Woohoo, just received my LoA in the mail today!! Got one about a week back from USAFA, but Annapolis is where I truly want to be. Gotta love the timing though, the day immediately *following* my CVW. Still had a great time out there though. And thanks for the further advice about MOC...

My son received his LOA- likelihood of nomination?

here's a slight variation: My first choice is USNA, but I just received a USAFA LOA. My Senators only let me note my top choice, but my Congresswoman lets me rank my preference (USNA, then USAFA). How does that situation affect LOA + securing a nom?

    CVW Packing List?

Thanks! I appreciate both the personal response and the extensive discussion - I feel like I have a pretty good idea what to bring now!

    CVW Packing List?

Hey, after a brief initial search I couldn't find anything that gave much of a direct list of what to/what not to bring to a USNA CVW I know I've seen a few scattered mentions (eg. is anything appreciated by mids, etc) but I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not a good list has been...

Waiver Process similar for NROTC + USNA?

Hey, I was disqualified for an eye related issue (nearsightedness). I already received a waiver from USNA, but recently my NROTC application entered into the system and got disqualified as well. Are my chances for getting an NROTC waiver good if I was able to get one for USNA?

ROTC give boost in College Acceptance?

K, thanks. In particular this was regarding NROTC. And I definitely think I'll try contacting the school's admissions office just to make sure they are aware. Seemed like a good suggestion that at the very least couldn't hurt in the process.

ROTC give boost in College Acceptance?

2 quick questions: Does being offered an ROTC scholarship (especially to a particular university) help with your chances of being accepted by that university? And if you are offered an ROTC scholarship to a particular university, and you get rejected from that university, what are your...

    Need DoDMERB Before Board Review?

Hey, I'm pretty much finished with my application (only BGO interview left), and was just a little curious about when my application might go in front of the board. Currently I'm in the process of getting a DoDMERB waiver, which hopefully should be coming shortly (of course with the waiver...

    ALO Resume

In my opinion 1 (at least fairly full) page is the safest bet though

    LOAs?

After what point in the process does the board start looking to see if a candidate is LOA material? Does the application need to be 100% completed (including DoDMERB and BGO interview)?

    Academy nominations

I suggest beginning the application process by the spring of your Junior year, both for the Academies and MOC noms. If you try to wait until October to begin your MOC nom applications, there's a decent chance you'll get burned by the deadlines. Or at least you won't be able to think through...

    Application Question

My own two cents as a fellow USNA 2010 applicant: Even though they asked "Have you..." and gave you an option to say no, for those two questions they probably *REALLY* want you to say yes. That doesn't mean you have to have done any superhuman, heroic tasks. They want this to be simply a...
