Is there any hope? Add/ADHD with a 504

dek81752-there is no automatic disqualification with ADD/ADHD from Service Academies. They do want to see 2 years as was said before, without accomodations, IEP's, 504's or meds. Absent that, it is not impossible to be considered but know that is the time frame. He will not know what is possible...

Medical Separation 3 months to graduation

As a parent of a DD, I know USNA has a place where you can go if you are in need of someone to talk to to sort out issues. You do not get "written up" or stigmatized for going there. Midshipman Development Center. Also, Chaplains are readily available to consult with in time of need. Depression...

    Clubs at USNA

My DD is participating in the fencing club. She had never done it before and loves competing. My other DD is in Drum and Bugle and played a string instrument since grade 4. She loves playing in the band-playing a new instrument. So, there are many opportunities to try new things. The quality of...

    Exterminators, Rats, and Bancroft

Saw it too. It really looked like someone's pet. Multicolored. Very disturbing given the size of the thing.

Is it worth applying to the Academy with my act scores

I agree with all the feedback here. When my DD first took the SAT/ACT I thought "no way is she getting in." Well, she's now a Youngster and doing well. She kept taking the SAT-I lost count how many times and long story short, she worked hard to get in. You simply need to do what was said...

Cash in checking for plebes at USNA

Opening a Navy Federal account as a parent made life much easier for us as we can simply transfer funds into our Mids accounts. The closest branch is a state away, but it is all done online now. Their small checks get deposited there too on a monthly basis which makes it easy for them given that...

    Autism, but not Autistic. Waiver?

I agree with mswmommy. An up to date evaluation is your ticket. Regardless of what you took meds for-you did not need them after about 15 or so so that is key. I see children "lose" the diagnosis when they outgrow symptoms after years of treatment. Similar to childhood asthma. Good luck to you!!

2 Transgender Cadets To Graduate But Will Not Serve

I know this thread is now dated as we just received word of the ban from the White House. My question is what do folks feel will happen to those who are a) currently serving and b) in service academies? Will the ban be applicable or for future service members as of the date it is implemented?

    Say it ain't so...

Having gone to I-day last year and again this year, the difference was shocking. Construction made parking a nightmare on the yard and the carts were, hmmm, strange. Our Plebe struggled with the cords and I'm sure would have rather not have had a cart to pull. Nerves, cords and the carts made...

    Plebe summer gear

We have a Youngster and sent compression shorts, tape for shin splints and put $$$ in her yard card as she was able to use it at CVS, Midstore and order out. Homemade cookies in tins were also popular

    Finally Got the E-mail

HMC I'm hoping your plan B is a good one. The fact that you applied and went through this process shows determination and grit. If this is still your dream, try again next year. There is one outstanding Plebe with our DD who tried 3x and finally got in!
