Is USMA's getting affected by hurricane sandy?

Not that I know of. We didn't get hit that hard compared to other areas in NY, I never even lost power or internet. Our mail was disrupted for a few days but it seems to have completely recovered. Hope that answers your question.

    West Point's new Commandant

Are you sure? I'm fairly certain that is just gossip produced by the prestigious and world-renowned cadet rumor mill...

    Overnight Visit

Hahaha, I saw that candidate in Thayer and could barely hold myself from laughing out loud. What was going through his head when he picked a shiny silver suit for his visit to USMA?

    USNA vs. USMA

Another factor to consider is the military training. At NASS I talked with a 1st class mid who planned on going into the Marines, and he mentioned being jealous of the opportunities afforded to USMA cadets, who train in small unit tactics and combined arms operations during their summers. I...

Preparing for the PT at Summer Seminar

I remember PT at NASS being much harder than at SLS. Sea Trials was really fun but tiring after 7 hours. I was also surprised at how bad I was at swimming, as a kid swimming came naturally to me, so I imagined I would be at least semi-competent in the water. But at NASS I could barely tread...

    Breakdown of Cadet Pay

I saw someone on the Yahoo answers page who said cadets get the same pay as an E-5, I think she was a little misinformed

    Special Forces

True, but that weeds out all but the most dedicated

    Special Forces

At the NASS they told us that on average 80% of mids who go through BUD/s pass it it and become SEALS.

    CFA

Well, you have plenty of time to prepare so I wouldn't worry about the individual events. I'd recommend joing a sports team (or several) and keep up a physically active lifestyle. I would start training specifically for the CFA during your junior year of high school, but you can always start...

    How am I looking?

By your credentials I would say you have a good chance of admission. If I were you, I would also prepare for the CFA. As you've probably heard, the basketball throw is quite awkward and difficult for some experienced athletes who have not practiced it.

    CFA score

He should be fine on the mile. I got a 7:20 on the mile at SLS and I still passed, and I know some people that got 7:30+ and still passed. Luckily, I was able to take the CFA again at NASS and I did so much better (6:40) because I was adjusted to the time zone difference. I would suggest trying...

Training for the basketball throw portion of the CFA

Thanks for the advice. I can do a couple (4-6) before failing, but it seems that I am just not improving in that category like I have for pushups, sit ups and the other exercises.

    Running at SLS

I'm not looking forward to the CFA at SLS. I'm used to running in 40 degree weather in the mornings and whenever the temperature passes 65 it feels really hot for me. How can I train to get used to the heat? Run in full winter gear?

Training for the basketball throw portion of the CFA

I've trained for the basketball throw by simply throwing a basketball against the wall in PE class. I start by simply throwing it as hard and high up the wall as I can (while standing) and I eventually went down to my knees and continued throwing it. When my arm started to get sore I switched to...
