    Reapplicants beware (all academies)

While I do agree USNA is searching primarily for those who want to serve rather than those who want to go to the academy, there is some contradiction in what you're saying. Take me for example, a NROTC scholarship MIDN. I have already secured a path to commission and serve. I was turned down by...

    Dollar value of appointment (official)?

I'd just like to highlight that my tuition for an in-state school costs the Navy approx 4k a semester. Times eight semesters is 32k. Add up summer trainings and uniforms and stipends generously to say that those are 20k throughout my four years. 52k for my education. I wonder how many of cheap...

    ROTC Roommate

Don't go complaining to them when your ROTC roommate does the same either ;) This is avoidable by choosing wisely, but it's also not that really big of a deal. Unless you can't fall asleep once waken up (which is actually incredibly easy to do considering how sleep deprived college students...

    Technology-Unlimited Data Plan?!?

I understand the convenience of a tablet, but why do they not just their laptops? I go to a traditional college and using an iPad (or really any tablet) is unheard of to take notes. Considering everyone needs a laptop to function in college now, and one is even provided at USNA, I don't see why...

    Marine Mountain Warfare Training Course

As a NROTC MIDN I can attest that the program is completely discontinued for NROTC MIDN, but I do believe some variation of it still exists for USNA MIDN.

    USNA and graduate school

I know a LCDR who was a USNA grad who attended grad school right after USNA. I was intrigued by this opportunity, as I had never heard of it before, and asked a few more questions. I'm personally not interested in pursuing grad school after USNA, but if you are be aware that a very small number...

    Sport or band?

Current MIDN 4/c. I did band for four years in high school, and also played a varsity sport (rugby) for my last two years in high school. Definitely varsity sports are weighed heavier than band for admission purposes. If you had to chose, chose sports. Varsity team sports develop character...

    Question on DoDMERB Exam.

There's your answer. I suffer(ed) from the same thing. I had those awful headaches sometimes and they always seemed to be on days that I went working out for extended periods of time or was out and about for the majority of the day. It wasn't until a chief told me it's probably dehydration...

    Nrotc afa

For NROTC, you have your own piece of paper that you bring to whoever is administering the AFA. They write down your scores as you continue with each event, sign at the bottom, and you take that paper with you. I scanned it and sent it to my chief. For USNA, you enter the email of whoever will...

    Nrotc afa

I think I was contacted by my coordinator, the automatic email after you finish the online portion tells you who your coordinator is. I contacted him and asked him how to continue. He gave specific instructions, which included going to the closest navy enlisted recruiter and getting some papers...

    Nrotc afa

I sent all of the forms via email to the chief that was my NROTC coordinator. He seemed like a very busy man and was slow at responding to emails, but I actually never met him in person, everything I did was via email. Talking about last year.

USNA vs West Point vs ROTC and athletics?

That's your decision to make, it's hard to say which one is better. Both programs commission ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps, and once you have the commission, you are in the same exact playing field as all the other new junior officers. A 3.0 is straight B's, yes...

    USNA/NROTC Fitness test

I wouldn't think so, they are two separate tests with different events and mandatory times in between events. You may find an officer who is willing to use USNA CFA results for your NROTC AFA, but officially I believe the answer is no.

Will the USNA accept two nominations?

USNA never denies nominations. You cannot get nominated by a congressman, senator, rotc unit, etc and have USNA tell you that they didn't accept the nomination. I, for one, was awarded three nominations for the last application cycle. You indeed should apply for and can possess multiple...
