Sorry I didn't see this note sooner - I had just updated my password and saw this message. My son was diagnosed at age four and received treatment for a total of about 3 1/2 years. He acheived remission within the first two months but the protocols specified a 3-year maintenance period for...

    HS Graduation Program

We were at West Point for the overnight candidate visit two weeks ago. The admissions major giving the breifing stated that a West Point education is currently valued at $448,000.

History of Cancer - Waiver and Appointment

My wife first discovered these forums after we got the dreaded DQ letter from DoDMERB. Our son had leukemia at age four and had achieved (and maintained) remission shortly after his chemotherapy was started. I had searched the forums for waivers due to cancer history and found very little...

    California Senators

Same here. Feinstein's office left a message saying that son got the nomination for USMA. They asked to be contacted in the event he received a nomination from another source.

Best Way to Get To West Point

I was looking into the same question earlier today since I'd be coming from California. It looks like Newark NJ might be a good choice. There's more direct flights and good fares - plus it appears to be faster drive to the academy than the two NYC airports. Newburgh would require a...

    ROTC Website

Yep, get the same message. It's been like that for at least a week now. Wouldn't be surprised if they were on break until next week. . .

    California Senators

We are from CA-11 (McNerney). They did their in-person interviews on the 13th, but had some candidates that couldn't be there - they were to be interviewed by phone the following weekend. That's why their slates will be delayed a week.

Which Service Academy was your nomination for? My son did his phone interview with Feinstein's West Point interviewers on Saturday the 13th, haven't heard anything back from them. His local rep. interviews were the same day and those slates will take about 3 weeks to finalize. I imagine that...

    AROTC Scholarship

Once again, similar story - received three system-generated emails on 12/6 saying that the file was considered complete and that we should hear something no later than May 30th. This after receiving an email on 11/17 saying that the file was complete and forwarded to the board for review. May...

    AROTC Scholarship

Haven't heard either We were wondering the same thing. Son's file was complete before the November boards, but he hasn't heard anything yet. Maybe he got passed over this time, but he has an LOA for West Point (AROTC is plan B). November must have been really competitive!

    NROTC waiver vs. USNA waiver

We are probably using the same logic. In my original question to DoDMERB I explained that risk to the military has already been addressed by the ROTC waiver - if the academy denies the waiver then they merely force the candidate to an alternate commisioning path, but they still end up as an...

    NROTC waiver vs. USNA waiver

My son has a very similar situation with the USMA/AROTC. He has already received a waiver from ROTC and is waiting on the USMA. He has an LOA for USMA, so I posed these two questions to DoDMERB: Does the waiver authority know that he has been waived by AROTC (and therefore will be...

    California Senators

Same here - got the call today to set up a Saturday phone interview. Feinstein's website doesn't mention interviews so I guess they keep people guessing. . . .

    AROTC Scholarship

I was told that once your file is submitted to the board it remains with them for future meetings for consideration, so they are looking at new submissions as well as the others who were not awarded a scholarship from prior sessions.
