    Beast supplies....socks?

I'm bringing two thin pairs of boot liners and three extra pairs of crew socks. I might not even take those. If you have dirty socks, wet them in your sink, wring them out, and let them dry. If you have stinky socks, well, you have stinky socks. Your feet won't stop smelling just because you...

    Food during Beast

Yes, sir. That's what I meant when I spoke about passing knowledge to the cadre quickly. I got some good practice at this year's Founder's Day Dinner for the West Point Society of Charleston.

    Breaking in the Boots

Make sure you're wearing thick boot socks and not crew socks or similar types. Mine felt bad in the heel also, until I took a shower in them. Weird, I know, but they are extremely comfortable now.

    Food during Beast

We get to choose from whatever is provided at each meal. However, we are forced to abide by the five chews rule, whereby we must chew a maximum of five times before swallowing. From what I understand, this is merely to inhibit engorging one's self on food and to be able to pass knowledge to...

Shoes Worn When Reporting on R-Day

In the "Instructions for Candidates Offered Admission", it is stated that "Candidates should wear one pair of confortable, well-fitting, inexpensive, black leather laced shoes with plain toe and rubber heel when reporting to West Point." Later, it states that I need to purchase a pair of low...

    Admissions Reception Dress

I went to one of these a few days ago and simply wore regular clothes. I actually left school early to get a few immunizations and have blood drawn for West Point. When I arrived, the 2LT speaking seemed quite pleased with my gray shorts and black U.S. Army t-shirt.

    ...So am I in?

Thank you, everyone! I am beyond excited. My soon to be eighty year old grandmother has presumably told every resident of the small town of St. George, South Carolina of my appointment. However, my uncle, a 1958 USNA graduate, ended our conversation with "Go Navy, beat Army." I don't blame...

    ...So am I in?

It's official. I just spoke with my liaison officer and he informed me that I have been appointed. Words cannot express how elated I am.

    ...So am I in?

A few days ago, I received a letter from West Point stating that I am qualified academically and in physical aptitude, but that my medical status is undetermined. Today, I was notified that I received a medical waiver. I was named Principal Nominee to the First Congressional District of South...

    Portal Problem

I have been trying to log into my candidate portal for the past few days and it appears as if the server is having a difficult time making a connection. Sometimes, the request is received and I can view my portal, but only a few fields, including my candidate kit, are visible. I am curious as...

    What are my chances?

I'm reading over the letter Congressman Brown sent me and it says the following: "It is my pleasure to inform you that I have submitted your name to the United States Military Academy as Principal Nominee from South Carolina First Congressional District for the class of 2014." I have no idea...

    What are my chances?

Does the type of nomination a candidate receive have any bearing on whether or not they are placed on the National Waiting List? Someone told me that Primary Nominees have the least frequency on it.
