Advice for a Freshman 3 yr. Army ROTC scholarship winner who wants out although doing well

My son was a 3YR AD scholarship winner. He was also a high speed JROTC cadet, BC, many awards etc. We also lost a teenage child so I understand both your pain and the profound effect this has on the other siblings. My son had to fight hard to get in, due to a medical DQ. He finally got the...

Checking things out for my Daughter

If she has already enlisted in the reserves then she is not eligible to compete for a national scholarship out of high school. She can join ROTC once she is in college and will be what is known as an Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) Cadet. She will be both a member of ROTC and still drill...

    Any CIET updates?

100% speculation at this time Payitforward. Don't book a hotel room that you can't cancel! We booked one for several days around what is currently the last day. We will change the reservation to what we really need when the time comes, but at least this way we already have a hotel pretty...

    Any CIET updates?

I think we are going to just book a few days and we can trim that down as necessary.

    Any CIET updates?

My son is heading to Btn HQ in the morning to pick up equipment and 'stuff'. Anyone know the exact dates for Session 3? And should we book a hotel for around the last day of the session for now to ensure we are there for graduation?

What does weekend AROTC training look like?

My son's BTN had a helo familiarization FTX in early spring (they go on 4 FTX's a year). Only contracted cadets were allowed to fly. Non contracted cadets had to ride in a truck. My son is near Ft. Bragg, and the BTN has some great connections there. Every FTX is crazy. Last weekend's FTX...

    CIET Cancelled?

My son is a DSII contracted scholarship cadet. First he was told he was going, and to pick a date range. Then he was told he wasn't going, and that he was going to Airborne school (which he was more excited about). And just the other day he was told he is going to CIET, gave him dates, and...

URGENT: My son joining the army

My son is a contracted MSII. He is in the Army. He always wanted to serve... every since he was a little boy. Those of you who have those kids know what I mean. I was a combat medic with the 1st Infantry Division in Desert Storm. I understand your fears, and they may even be a bit worse...

CULP and CIET summer 2015 AROTC

My Contracted MSII son got a call from his PMS this morning informing him that he will be attending CEIT, and asking what his preferred time slot is. He didn't previously ask for CEIT FYI... Not sure if all contracted MSIIs are going or if their BTN/BGE just has to fill a certain number of...

Any rumors on Cadet BRANCHING timeframe?

My son's BC is #6!!! My MSII son had nothing but great things to say about him. He was AD Spec Forces before going Green to Gold. Did an amazing job working with the junior Cadets in the field and was well liked. Not that it matters as much anymore for OML, but he did turn my perpetually...

Any rumors on Cadet BRANCHING timeframe?

My son is an MSII, so Branching isn't quite on his radar yet... But his BTN released their info this morning via Facebook. In his company, 16 out of 16 got AD. But what is most interesting is they had one Cadet that got branched Cyber. According to the post there where only 15 cyber cadets...

    Test Scores

My son had similar numbers on his first go around. I agree with @nofodad that you will need strong leader and athlete scores also. ROTC scholarships are different than most because they aren't purely based on academics. Applicants with much higher ACT scores have not gotten scholarships...

    USACC Changes

Thanks for the update! My son is a contracted MSII... they are getting 0 info from their command right now (which is understandable). At first he was frustrated but has since decided this is just part of the training to prepare for the real Army. It at least helps with the stress to know...

And So It Has Been Said

Learning to live and worth with all types is a very important lesson he will need to succeed in the Military. He is still going to deal with less motivated people, or have to work with (or for) people he may not like. Those are life lessons. My son had a very similar experience with AROTC...
