  • Hi kdc246, I read in one of your posts about a FB page for disenrolled cadets? I was disenrolled due to a Hard ARC back in '14 while in my 2-dig year. I am halfway through my enlistment obligation but have been having a heck of a time with a number of "eliminee" problems. Anyway, to avoid further rambling, I would be thankful if you knew of such a FB group! Have a good one!
Congratulations on his appointment! I know you are very proud of him. I am a member of USAFA 2014 and 2016 Parent groups, and My life is Cadet parent on Facebook. I think there is also a Prep page for 2016 I am not sure if it is for Parents yet. I will gladly try and answer any questions you might have. Parent's clubs can be good or bad depending on who is running them. I did not have a good experience with mine, but that is just me. Many others find them a wealth of information and very helpful. They do a lot of great things, mine is too far away to make it reasonable. Again congrats to your son!
    Kate,
I asked because your posts are so comprehensive and helpful - and my son AFrpaso was just appointed to the prep school. (you know that already, I'm sure you recognize his name!) but I just registered. Any tips for places to go online to get info? Are you familiar with the Facebook page Wingmoms? Created for parents/friends/spouses of BMT, extremely helpful. Just wondered if there was something like that. Am investigating local parent club, too. And -- Thank You for Your Service.
    AnotherLeadMom,

No, my daughter did not attend the Prep School. I just poke around a lot of websites. Before I knew of the Service Academy Forum I probably went through all of the USAFA official site. Both my husband and I are retired AF (husband Active Duty, and I Reserve). Was there a reason you asked?

    Hi Barbara,
Kyle is not flying out of SFO. It is much easier for us to get to Sacramento as we are on the far side of Vacaville. He leaves at 11:30 a.m. He arrives in CoS around 5 p.m. Let me know if you all decide on the Bed and Breakfast. If not I can make sure that Keenan gets a good meal the evening before I-day. If that is okay with you. It is fun to watch the board light up with appointments. One of Kyle's friends got the dreaded TWE, but it was not his first choice so it wasn't much of hit for him. He knows a couple of others from our area who haven't heard yet too. Looking forward to meeting you and your family as well.
    Take Care,
    Kate
    Hi Kate,
We received Keenan's ticket information yesterday. He will be flying on United flight #0710 out of San Francisco on Wed. June 27th at 8:30 am. He flies from SF to Denver and then Denver to Colorado Springs. Will Kyle be on the same flight? I assume that they are putting most of the cadets from the Bay Area on the same flight. It was very exciting to see all of the new appointments today. I know that so many famiies are rejoicing tonight. We will look forward to meeting your family.
    Thanks, Barbara Meier
    Hi Barbara,
Yes, Kyle is a recruited athlete. Or maybe it was the other way around...He felt that having a good background in swimming would help in his admissions process. He sought out the swimming coach almost two years ago. Told him of is interest in continuing to swim in college. At that point Coach Clayton gave him some very definitive times to reach before he would consider him. Kyle struggled to get them, only reached the goal mid summer last year. It always seemed he was just a couple of tenths away in several events. He was probably trying just too hard to get there. We let the coach know and then waited. I want to say it was nearly 6 months after that before we knew that it was going to happen. He is happily enjoying his senior year now but, definitely is ready to move on. His sister thinks he is crazy.....but that is another story. She is going to start in on being Cadre for BCT early I think. She arrives home tomorrow for Spring Break YAY!
    Kate
    Hi Kate,
I think my son is just as excited as Kyle about getting there. I think part of it is that "senioritis" is now affecting him and he wants to move on to the next chapter of his life. I realize that these next three months will fly by...Is Kyle a recruited athlete?
Thanks. I will look forward to meeting you and your family.

    Hi Barbara,
Kyle is also taking the government ticket, in fact it arrived today! He will be leaving out of Sacramento though. Good chance they will be on the same flight to Colorado Springs out of Denver. There are only so many flights from Denver to CoS. You should look into the Bed and Breakfast put on by the AOG. If you haven't gotten the second package with all the paperwork, it will be in there(AOG has their own package as part of a bigger package). The Security Clearance paperwork is crazy, they have to print it and take it with them. It is 122 pages. Kyle friended Keenan on FB last night, so hopefully they can connect sometime.
    Take care,
    Kate
    Dear Kate,
Thanks for your note. We will not be going to I-Day because Keenan will be flying there with the government arranged ticket. Keenan is on Facebook under Keenan Meier
and yes it would be great for the guys to facebook each other. We don't yet have a date but we will let you know as soon as we do for our barbecue. Thanks for the helpful ideas. We do look forward to meeting you. Thanks, Barbara Meier
    Barbara,
That sounds like great fun! Hopefully we will be able to attend! Are you taking your son to I-Day or is he flying alone? Kyle will be flying in on the government ticket, while I travel with our daughter taking her car back to CoS. We will meet Kyle at the airport in CoS and then I will take him to I-Day. I think we will be staying at the Academy Hotel as it is fairly easy access to the base from there. Do you have a Parent's Group close to you in Alamo? I found that the one based in Sacramento just didn't work for us, many of the meetings were just too far away. Kyle attends Vacaville High School. I will have Kyle look up Keenan on FB and do a friend request. Do you Facebook? Also plan on signing up for the AOG parents membership, the pictures keep you sane, even if you have to pour over thousands of photos playing "Where's Waldo" to find your cadet. Just the glimpse will keep you going another day.

    Dear Kate,
I cannot believe this...because we live so close. We live in Alamo, (next to Walnut Creek) and we are in Congressman Garamendi's district (10) and I see that you are in Miller's district. We have already contacted a few appointees from our area and are thinking of having a barbecue at our home for the cadets and their families to come and meet one another before they leave for the academy. We don't yet have a date, but we would love to have you join us. Our son is Keenan Meier, and he attends Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek. Thanks for your note. We will look forward to meeting you and your son, Kyle and your husband etc. Thanks for taking the time to write...Barbara Meier
    Hi Barbara,
Yes, I do have a daughter who is at the Academy right now. She will be a C2C after graduation. She will be working 1st beast for her squadron (19-Wolverines). Kyle, my son, already has his countdown going on his iPhone, he is pretty excited about getting the ball rolling so to speak.
What part of California are you from? It is ironic, we are from California too! We live in Vacaville, which is close to Travis AFB. My husband and I are retired enlisted Air Force. To broaden the location a bit, we are half way between Sacramento and San Francisco on I-80.
Yes, we will be at PW. We have found renting a house to be easier for us, there are 5 of us total. If it works out I think it would be great to meet. I will let my son know that your son is interested in making FB appointee friends. Did your son attend Summer Seminar last year? Being as this is our second time through, if you or your son have any questions we can help out with let me know.
    Sincerely,
    Kate Castro
    Hi there,
I assume from your posts that you are a mom of a daughter who is already at the USAFA and a son who will be entering this summer with my son. Will you be there over parents' weekend, because we would love to meet with you then. Where do you live? My son would enjoy facebooking with some of the new appointees. Thanks, batmom
