    PCSM Question

I believe that is what the class of 2019 believed when they were taking the AFOQT between their Sophomore/Junior summer. Our cadet told us that the AFOQT didn't matter. But then this year they they added the PCSM minimum score to be pilot qualified which caught some cadets by surprise......

    Leaving USAFA

For what it's worth, we have two Cadets at USAFA. Cadet 1 implored Cadet 2 not to attend USAFA. Cadet 1 said go to a "normal" school and have fun. Do ROTC but don't attend USAFA. Cadet 2 decided to attend anyway. About this same time of Cadet 2's Doolie year, Cadet 2 wanted out. Cadet 2...

    Shipping to USAFA

We have two Cadets there and below is the address we use for Amazon Prime which has a different Zip Code than the one posted above, but our son ordered something small Saturday and it was there Tuesday. It is strange as both of our Cadets have a different "Plus Four" at the end of the Zip Code...

    Social Media on DDO

We created "Secret" Facebook Groups for each of our Cadets where friends/family are invited to watch their journey. Even though our personal FB pages are not public, we are very careful about posting on our FB pages. However, on our "Secret" page, we post pics and give more details of their...

When should I start my application?

As kinnem stated above - you should start your application immediately (or yesterday). This process is unlike the typical college application process and requires A LOT more planning, attention to detail and work in navigating the application process. If this is where you want to go, then have...

    Cadet Area Gym

Keep in mind that USAFA has multiple gyms. There is the IC gym that is only available to IC athletes. The "regular" Cadet gym is very nice but the IC gym is really nice. There are other gyms for other sports also but those are probably the two largest gyms.

    Ear tubes medically disqualifying?

One of our current Cadets had tubes in both ears that fell out and this wasn't an issue (as referenced in previous posts).

    A-Day

Our opinion is if it is in your budget, it is worth it. It was my wife's first peak into military life as you get to see your first of many parades, uniforms and military activities. While it is busy, it isn't nearly as busy as PW's. For us, getting to see them (we have two at USAFA 2 years...

Answering any and all questions about BCT for parents or future applicznts

The finals schedule typically opens up right after Labor Day for Cadet's to schedule their finals. Some Cadets like to rush and get them done as quickly as possible, while others spread them out. We two Cadets and they each do them differently........

    Questions regarding BCT and after

In regards to school supplies: Our Cadet 1 (like child 1) - we showed up on A-Day with a bin full of school supplies - way overkill and some of the wrong supplies. Our Cadet 2 (like child 2) - we showed up on A-Day with a few of her favorite pens/mechanical pencils and she purchased the stuff...

    Air tickets for Thanksgiving break

Unless they are on some type of "team" that requires them to be there for practice and/or game, almost all of the Cadets go home at Thanksgiving. For Doolies, it will be their first time home since leaving in June. I respectfully disagree with waiting on purchasing tickets for Thanksgiving...

    Air tickets for Thanksgiving break

If you use Southwest, you can book and then change if needed very easily. Either way, I would at a minimum book the return flight on Sunday as that is a very busy travel day and you know they have to be back by 7:00pm. Also, typically the last class possible gets out around 3:30pm, so if you...

    Utter Frustration with myself

Our DD was in a similar position and hit a wall with her scores which drover her crazy. Given that I couldn't provide any guidance (both our DS & DD are way smarter than I ever was) we went to Barnes & Noble (yes the brick & mortar store) and we started looking through all of the ACT Prep...

    Sophomore Year and needing guidance

I respectfully disagree with this advice if I understand it correctly. As a parent of two USAFA Cadets, GPA/Class Rank is probably the heaviest weighted component of your application scoring. I would always recommend taking the most challenging classes offered (A/P, Honors, college, etc.) to...

    Sophomore Year and needing guidance

Can you take the History class at a local junior college which would be a weighted class?
