    Internships for AROTC cadets?

Thanks, Jcleppe. My DS had expressed an interest, but I wasn't sure of the summer commitments. Good to know.

    Internships for AROTC cadets?

I was just wondering, is it possible for AROTC cadets to pursue a summer internship? Is there training over the summer that they need to attend?

    Varsity Sport

So, do you get the 1.5 points for the OMS even if you only play a sport for your freshman year? Or do you get 1.5 points for each year you participate in a sport, whether it's varsity or club? I'm not sure how the point system works. I have a feeling my DS may not continue playing his sport...

    AROTC scholarship award

Thanks for all of the responses. That really puts my mind at ease. DS was all excited to "kill it" and then woke up throwing up. He was so disappointed. But, I spoke to him today and he said that they do take the test once a month, so it sounds like they also follow the same schedule that...

    AROTC scholarship award

My son just took his first APFT and had a stomach flu on that day. He passed, but did not have a stellar score. He is a 3yr AD. Will this be significantly detrimental to contracting next year and receiving his scholarship?

    Varsity Sport

My son is a Freshman, AROTC, and Div III athlete. The stress of giving 100%, which is expected by each endeavor, is very intense. The time commitment it is heavy and it's definitely a lot of work. He is up at 5:30am 4/5 days for PT or team weight lifting, 2 hour practices three days a week in...

Can 3YR AD do summer training before contracting?

Obviously, I don't know what his Battalion told him. I haven't had a chance to ask him about it yet since he is so busy with this first week at school. That's why I am asking here, for my own knowledge. Thanks for the information.

Can 3YR AD do summer training before contracting?

Is it possible for a 3YR AD to do any summer training before their sophomore year? (Before contracting) My DS would like to go to Camp Buckner next summer, but I'm not sure they will send anyone who is not contracted. Also, how do you get to take advantage of summer training...

    Presidential Fitness Test

Scores do go down when you are judged by military standards and not by a gym teacher. My DS had super PFT scores for his scholarship application. He was a two sport athlete all four years in high school, so he has always been in super shape. Yesterday they gave the new cadets another PFT (not...

ROTC MS Class Conflicts with Required Class for Major

My son has also had a schedule conflict appear two days into his first semester. He had to drop a class and add a different one because of a conflict with the lab (which is in the afternoon.) Aren't labs usually scheduled for the mornings?

3yr AROTC winners sign as Soph's, correct?

Thanks! I will tell him. Boy, that would be something if he were upgraded to a 4 yr! I won't hold my breath, though. Probably just lumped him in with everyone else. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the super quick, helpful response!

3yr AROTC winners sign as Soph's, correct?

My son is a 3YR AD scholarship winner and has just started his freshman year. He said they recently told him that they would have a ceremony in Sept. during a football game for the scholarship contract signing. It was my understanding that 3YR AD's don't sign until there second year. Is this...

    It is finally feeling real!

No recognition at all at my DS's high school during the senior award night. I asked the guidance counselor about it, but she just said if DS didn't get an invitation for the evening, he did not have to attend. What a bummer. In the end, though, he is relieved. The attention is not what he is...

Meeting ROTC staff while on college visits

My DS's first choice school is 8 hours away, so he interviewed locally. Since he plays a fall, winter, and spring sport, it would have been difficult ( not to mention expensive) to get down there for an interview. The interview went well and he did send a thank you email. It's always nice to...
