    English req for NROTC?

It seems to me that an English/English Comp type class would be a requirement at most universities as a "core" class?

    Just tell the truth!

Just. Wow. Very eloquent and very well said. I wish you much luck as you continue to traverse this thing called adulthood. And thank you for doing the "hard right thing". One of my favorite quotes (not sure whom to credit for it) is "Do the right thing, all the time, even when nobody...

    NROTC Orientation Week

I also recommend your DS or DD show up in at least khaki slacks (NOT shorts) and some type of plain polo shirt, tucked in, with a belt. I saw one young man reporting to my DD's unit get yelled at and called "cute" when he showed up in shorts...... just sayin'......

End of the Line for USNA

I agree usna1985; that's the way it was with my DD. She opened up her application for a second run at USNA; enrolled in her chosen Plan B university as a Mech E major with her 4-year national NROTC scholarship. She loved her program/battalion and school so much and was adamant she didn't want...

For those who are waiting or have received the TWE

Similar situation with my DD. She decided her Plan B was to become her new Plan A, as she did not want to wait an extra year to reach her goal. She loves where she is at her chose university with her NROTC scholarship, and is excitedly anticipating CORTRAMID in June of this year. :)

    Amen to that!

    Life as an NROTC Midshipmen?

In my DD's unit, the freshman mids all have so many required study hours a week and required sessions with tutors the unit has hired, which is good, in my opinion, since most Navy mids have a STEM-heavy schedule. This is in addition to any billets, leadership classes, drill, "voluntold"...

    Taxes....

Great, thanks for the rapid replies!

    Taxes....

My DD was the proud recipient of a 4-year NROTC scholarship.... She is thriving and loves it to the core. She is considered to be in the Navy Reserves and draws a small paycheck from the Navy twice a month. My question is: She is 19 and will receive a W-2 from the Navy. Does she file her...

How to make the best year possible

Also, your schedule could be predicated on your major, which you will need to declare (should have declared by now?) to even be awarded your scholarship, should you be awarded one, in addition to your ROTC leadership classes and PT requirements. My DD is a college freshman and recipient of a...

Do I have at least a decent chance of appointment?

I agree with fencersmother!! My DD is in her Freshman year at college on a national NROTC scholarship, majoring in Engineering Physics.... It has been and continues to be extremely demanding. There are required study and tutor hours, not to mention homework, PT, assigned watches and other...

Do I have at least a decent chance of appointment?

I'm not sure where you live, but lacrosse could be an option for you. They don't have it in schools where we live, but we found a club team for our DD, and she loved it.... playing goalie and working up to co-team captain by her junior and senior years of high school......

    Civillian ROTC vs SMA

NROTC midshipmen at our DD's university commission into AD into the Navy or Marine Corps. We were disappointed that not one of the cadets they chose to address the parents were planning on serving at all. Our perception, and again I realize I will catch heat, was that it seemed to us the...

    Civillian ROTC vs SMA

Our DD has been on the path of serving her country as an officer in the military (I will not state her branch preference here) since the 8th grade. Like many young people just like her, she has worked tirelessly toward goal. She had applied to both USMA and USNA for the Class of 2019, and due...
