    Medical waiver and commissioning

Also ... his commanders and staff really want him to proceed ... he is highly thought of in his unit -- does lots of volunteer work, organizes and all the "right" stuff ... so that can only help. It will be a waiting game ... and one I have no input or influence on ... thanks again!

    Medical waiver and commissioning

Thanks so much for the input ... My son went for an official physical in February ... and told the examining doctor about the surgery (he still has braces ...) ... the doctor basically said ... "wow I bet that hurt" and moved on. This surgery will not impact his physical readiness ... so that's...

    Medical waiver and commissioning

Hi ... my son is a college junior with a full NROTC scholarship ... he also had planned jaw surgery over xmas to correct an under bite/jaw misalignment. The unit knew about this -- it's been years in the planning. He has, and will have, a couple of screws in his jaw. Now he must go through a...

    Army Navy Game 2012 tickets?

This is all such good info! We already have a hotel -- Club Quarters ... which is near public transit, we're told ... anyone ever stay there? The downside is parking doesn't come with it ... We have potential for finding tickets ... and thanks for the advice about springing for the better...

    Army Navy Game 2012 tickets?

OK ... our son will be a Firstie and we're finally able to go to an Army Navy Game this fall ... we missed the window for our son to buy us tickets ... and looking on line, it's nuts what the scaplers want -- I've seen $650+. Any advice on finding good seats (2) at a good price ... we hope for...

    I day - arrive 1 or 2 days before?

Arriving early worked for us ... it gave us a chance to adjust to the time change (West Coast) ... and to the humidity .... well, as much as anyone can adjust who hasn't lived there for years! It also gave us time to explore DC and Annapolis a little before the big day. Good luck! Can't...

    Academy and Officer swords

Sword costs OK ... looking ahead to DS graduating from USNA in 2013 ... and think a sword would be a terrific grad gift. The question, though, is about the sword itself ... are there different kinds/styles? What is the cost ... someone told us to buy/order ahead, get it engraved and present to...

Official Naval Academy Class of 2016 Appointment Thread

Congratulations to all who received appointments. If you accept you, and your families, are in for a wild ride! This is, however, not an "official" list of anything ... and really should be renamed. The word "official" implies USNA endorsement and information.

    PRK for vision correction

My USNA Second Class son had PRK last month ... and is progressing nicely, may even be perfect ... I'm not sure when his final follow up is ... Your daughter should be able to find out the schedule ... and it likely would be much more accurate than anything found on this forum (barring an...

    Helicopter parents and you

As a parent of a current, and pretty darn independent Mid, I am hopeful for most of the current students. My mid doesn't communicate all the nuances of his life ... that's as it should be. I think a lot of the parent postings are a cry for information ... they don't want to let go, yet their...

    Trace of Protein in Urine

my son was dehydrated and had protien in the first test ... right after a big soccer match ... he did the same ... rested, drank a lot for a week, then tested fine. Good luck!

They Are All Great ROTC Kids!!

Occupying wall street ... probably not ... but hopefully each will follow their moral duty to stand up for what is morally and ethically right. Coming out against the current political line of blaming teachers, police, and firefighters for the economic mess the country is in could indeed qualify...

In State - Out of State

our state does not have a navy rotc program -- public or private. My son applied to out of state schools that had the program ... and was assigned accordingly. The deal is you have to be accepted at the school on their terms ... then ROTC will be applied. ROTC originally assigned him to a school...

    Car At USNA??

Many likely have parents who help pick up the tab for the pricey car ... and the pricey insurance for a 20-21-year old sole driver. Our Mid ... a 2nd class ... bought a great used car (Mazda 3 Sport/Touring) with less than 40K miles ... got a good deal, and it does help establish his credit...

    NROTC Schools Questione

We live in a state without a Navy ROTC program. My son was initially assigned to Arizona (where he hadn't even applied) ... he eventually was changed to Oregon State (first choice) ... along the way, a spot opened at Idaho, which he respectfully declined. So, the bottom line: if there are...
