How much technical training do straight deck majors get?

My DH went to KP when you could still get a dual degree and he loved it. He worked as an officer but loved his training as an engineer and would say it helped his career. My DS is sad they don’t allow that dual degree any longer.

Any thoughts on protocol for accepting at the Naval Academy if you have already accepted your Plan B as another service Academy? If it’s a regular school, it feels like it won’t be as hard as turning down another service Academy when we’ve already accepted.

Replying to this thread everyday until an appointment/rejection

He did and he’s getting excited. He is applying for his TWIC now. I’d have him do that because it can take 60 days and it would be good to have even if he goes to USNA. His third choice is Webb and he liked that too. I think he’s picking these over ROTC

So we are also still pending @USNA but my DS has two good plan b options and is getting more excited about 1 (appointment to USMMA). I am really happy for him.

But it gives amazing time off! When they need you you are there but 2-4 weeks off every couple months is NICE

    Football Tickets for MIDS Family

We live in the area and if our son gets in we will get season tickets which don’t include army navy. We buy about 3-4 a year. Hint if you don’t mind not having a seat, or have younger kids, the very best place to sit is on the grass behind the goal post. It’s more fun, you can see well and you...

Navigating USMMA Summer Commitments for a Family Trip

I asked my DH who graduated from there. He said look at the academic calendar which is here: https://www.usmma.edu/academics/registrar/2023-2024-academy-calendar-1 He said you will have off Christmas and Thanksgiving but won’t know your summer time off because it will be dependent on the...

Navigating USMMA Summer Commitments for a Family Trip

Congratulations! That’s a great acceptance. Unfortunately you won’t be able to plan these kinds of things. Your vacation has to be around their schedule - they won’t change for yours. Part of going to a service academy.

I tried to look on these groups and there’s only one I could join and the others are for already accepted candidates. Any groups suggestions that will allow a pending candidate?
