USMA Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread

Parents, as you begin this journey, you are going to discover many different sources of information available to you. While it is certainly wonderful to use multiple resources, please keep in mind that Debra Dalton does work for USMA as the Parent Communications Liaison at West Point and...

Working part time when on lave?

ScoutPilot is correct in his assertion that current USMA regs prohibit cadets from having outside employment, so timing of leave really doesn't matter.

You want to be in combat?

Probably the best post I have ever read on here. My oldest (2008) began as one of those cadets who was afraid things would be over and he would miss out on something, despite what his father told him about the reality of it. As an INF PL in the 2/327th In Bn, 101st Abn Div, he got his wish in...

    West Point Branch Night

True scoutpilot, though I have attended several airborne and air assault blood pinnings, and shaken my head at every one...

    West Point Branch Night

The thing I have always found interesting about underclassman blood pinning firsties on branch night is that in the Army only someone who has already earned that particular badge gets the opportunity to blood pin you...

    Pre Ranger COurse

The past couple of summers they have offered cadets a slot at the pre-Ranger course at Benning as a MIAD during the summer. Not sure why, since they are not allowed a slot in the course. My youngest son's roomate went summer 2010.

    USMA Grad killed in Afghanistan

The young man lost was the team leader for my youngest son's room mate in 2007. According to my son he was a great guy who influenced him hugely, and he is grieving his loss. I do have to make one minor correction -- he was not a 2010 graduate nor a 2LT. I will not go into the reasons, but he...

    MoH Recipient

My oldest is a CPT in the 101st ABN DIV. He bristles terribly at the blasé use of the word "hero" by most people. It does not help that he made and heard radio calls in Afghanistan in which the term "hero" was used to describe the KIA in his unit. Anyone who calls him a hero is likely to...

Moving Tribute to 6 101st Soldiers KIA this week.

My son is a Platoon Leader in 2/325th Inf Bn . One thing not mentioned in the blog is that they were all within a month of returning home after a grueling deployment. Two of the KIA had 10 days left in country... No Slack! http://www.unknownsoldiersblog.com/2011/04/right-now.html "We...

    One-Way Ticket

I got choked up when going through the many boxes of stuff my grad hauled home in 2008, and found a shoebox filled with all the letters he had received during beast 4 years before. After 4 years, and misplacing numerous important items, he had held on to them. We sat down and read through...

How many family members can attend USMA R-Day?

Please keep in mind that information posted on prospect-net is not official and may not be correct for this year, as things can and do change. Despite the name of the organization running those list serves (west-point.org), they are not affiliated with West Point in any offical capacity. While...
