Parent of a 2016 swab - that was a rough day, especially for him. The CGA did a great job in telling us what to expect and how to support them but, nonetheless, I'm anxious to hear how it's going when/if we get a letter from him. I figure no news is good news.
Mum, thanks and totally agree that it's their choice. I do want to encourage my DS to visit to the schools for another look before he decides. I definitely liked KP when we visited and the options. I'm glad to hear your DS is ok and feels KP is the right place.
He's not applied bc of a free ride but bc he wants to service his country. With that, each of the SAs offer excellent paths to do so, it's disappointing to me to see KP be devalued, underfunded and ill maintained. I don't think the M\N should have to deal w/ such safety hazards.

Same here, my DS son had receieved an nom from Mikulski in Dec and got a nom from MD-3 last week, so he got a similar, congrats but defer letter from Cardins's office. Made sense, now waiting for the USNA to hopefully say yes.
As LITS says, your CGA major has little to do w/ ensign's assignments, except engineers will likely be that on their first cutters. The major may have some bearing on a subsequent PG school application at the O3-O4 level. The USCG is in a surprising number of countries, particularly in the US...
