    What's Next?

Both of my kids did not get into the summer seminars at USAFA, USMA, and USCGA. Both received multiple appointments, graduated from their respective academies, and are now pilots. I always tell them that they have the best entry level jobs out there.

    Decision time

Great to hear. We have 1 WP grad who chose Army over USAFA and USCGA. It was all Coast Guard his junior year, then USAFA over the summer in between and finally USMA after a visit in the fall. Right choice for him and he is flying helos at the moment. His older brother is a USAFA grad and wasn’t...

    Sandhurst

Yes. Saw our 2020 compete in 2019. It was one of our favorite weekends. You can drive to some of the stages but there is a good deal of walking.

    First Assignments from West Point

One of my son’s flight school roommates elected BRADSO and added 4 years to his commitment. This was 2020 or the last class with the 6 year commitment…maybe a special case year?

How is the food at USAFA? Is it different for athletes?

Had one kid at USAFA, one at West Point and one at a big state U. All three thought the food was average. Though, we only had to foot the bill for one. 😉My wife and I went to Big State U and the food was average at best.

    Skiing

Our son graduated a few years ago and skied most winter weekends. He was on the Alpine ski team (club) but also went with squadron friends. He always says that getting away from the Academy for a break kept him going through some of the tough stretches.

    Web guy

Got over 50 great shots of our 2018 grad. We dropped it after the 1st year. And he loved seeing these after graduation!

How do the required athletics work?

Son did Alpine Ski 1 year and then switched over to his company Sandhurst team. He led the team 1 year which was great experience for him…he thought Sandhurst was one of his best experiences there.

    SLE status??

Yes no impact on admissions but it can help you make your own decision. Our 2020 WP grad chose WP over USAFA partly on the summer experience( many other factors were weighed). SLE was a better experience than the one he had at USAFAs program. His older brother still won’t forgive him as he is a...

Math 141 and 142 Information for Admitted Student

Son graduated from USAFA in 2018. He had a good math ACT score but only pre-calc in high school. He ended up with an A and a B in the calc courses. I think it all comes down to working hard and getting help when needed.

    Sports Prior to I-Day

We left it up to our sons. The USAFA kid made it through the lacrosse season without injury. The WP son received an early appointment and finished up the ski racing season with everything intact. As for my wife and I, we survived as well…barely.

    Ivy League/UC's vs. Academies

Neither one of my SA grads would have made the initial screening for any Ivy…ACT too low. Both did well at their respective academies, even with a few bumps along the way…. Both are doing well as junior officers. I am a true believer in the process the academies use when seeking those likely to...

    USMA local lodging options

Lots of options… my wife and I visited 10+ times during our sons 4 years. Stayed at the Thayer for special occasions…plebe parent weekend and ring weekend. Other times in Nanuet and Central Valley…always Hampton Inns. Aday was great to stay a little bit removed from post….your plebe will enjoy...

    Thanks to SAF

I just wanted to express my thanks to SAF and to all of the moderators and contributors to these forums. I believe I have been a lurker/member for close to 10 years ever since my 1st son expressed an interest in the military. I have learned so much about the Academies, ROTC, Dodmerb and other...
