How To Be Successful as an AS250

After the bloodbath this year in the FT selection process, I would definitely take to heart 3 words: Academics, Academics, Academics. Followed by PFA, attitude, and demonstrated leadership. You may not have a lot of extra time around the det - just make sure that it's QUALITY time though. Do...

    AFROTC Book money/stipend

Be prepared to make up the difference - depending on your major, $300 can get quickly eaten up by (used) STEM books. Yes, you do have to pay first and then be reimbursed later.

    AFROTC Book money/stipend

Expect Oct after an Aug school start for both stipends and book allowance. it's never been any earlier at my son's det. It will vary from det to det though.

    AFROTC Contracting process

First thing they did when my son reported in was weighing in - the PFT was run the day after that. As Pima said, the weight standards will follow you everywhere, stay on top of them! Also, be ready for about 2 hours of sitting there listening to every word of the contract being read out loud to...

    Non-rated engineering slots (AFROTC)

Actually, engineering is in the technical category within AFROTC and as I recall, technical field cadets received the majority of field training slots this last cycle followed by rated with non-tech, non-rated cadets last in line. My son is an engineering student who got a slot and most of the...

AF introduces Total Force Commissioning Process

He and a few others weren't offered the option since they aren't part of that year group but it could happen next year...

AF introduces Total Force Commissioning Process

Not really sure how many cadets will actually volunteer for the program. The ones in this year group remaining have fought hard and persevered for their slots. I know that the cadets at my son's det are very concerned and there are already only about 15% left out of those who started the program...

    Field Training Extra Packing list

Best of luck to your son! Even my son who was doing the "I'm tough and I don't need any letters from home" shtick told us how comforting it was to come back to his bunk after a long day of training and finding letters waiting for him... Even from Dad razzing him... :shake:

    Field Training Extra Packing list

Heard no Max 1 horror stories IRT that subject... However, DO pay attention to how you fill out forms... :shake:

    Field Training Extra Packing list

I think - while washing some of those things he brought back from Max 1 - the socks were labeled on the heel and the towels in a lower corner - legible when held upright by the upper corners. Not sure if it was done to any spec.

Hopefully he's adapted to that and I get to pick him up wearing prop and wings on Sat at MAFB! :shake:

    Combat Diver Question

Oh - and you will probably drown several times too - they'll pump you out and toss you back in - just keep swimming. NEVER surface during back and forths either. Get used to being able to swim the width of an Olympic sized pool repeatedly with just a breath or two when you hit the other side and...

    Combat Diver Question

Army Combat Dive or the Navy Sharkmen's School? There's a major difference between the 2.

    Scholarship Quotas

I think 1 or 2 top cadets earned ICSP's this year at my son's det down from 3-4 in the past- he's a HSSP recipient and the vast majority of contracted cadets there are HSSP as well. Really helps to be Techies too. V/R

    Field Training Extra Packing list

FINALLY got a letter from our son at MAX 1 - sounds pretty busy - he wrote a sentence or two every night for 7 days before he could mail it due to time constraints - He really stressed attention to detail being very important - especially with the packing list and room inspection. He did...
