    Ask Away

22Dad - As a former backpacker, I would recommend wearing two pairs of socks. One thin, then the regulation sock. For the thin sock, polypropylene works best. It wicks the moisture from the foot. My DS took some with him to wear under the regulation boot socks. He has been wearing the double...

Would like some perspective on USNA engineering program rigor

+++ to all the posters so far. I will answer with a little different angle building on what falconchic88 ended with. A little background first - DS graduated with an aerospace engineering degree from USNA and is currently flying (or at least learning to) the MH-60S helicopter. 2nd DS is...

    Can you believe it?

I am not sure if y'all have considered the ACT as well. Some do much better on the ACT than on the SAT! I saw there is an ACT on December 10. Not sure if it is too late to register.

    Low ACT test score

Has he tried the SAT yet? Some do better on the SAT than on the ACT. On a side note, I was told that the ACT is designed to be taken by seniors, so there could be some material on the ACT that your DS has not yet learned or been exposed to.

Do presidential noms typically get appointments later? The "Comp. Pend. Review" appears permanent

The only thing I can recommend (although hard to do) is relax. Our DS did not get his call from our MOC until March 29th.

How does WP feel about family members in the military?

info from BGO Our source was a family friend who was a BGO (not for our DS, since he is in another state).

How does WP feel about family members in the military?

"points" for family members in the militart It was explained to us this way - if there is an immediate family member who has been in the military, then a certain number of points are added to the Whole Candidate Score (parent, sibling), but more than one generation away (grandparent) and there...

    Performance During Beast

Yes The reality is that you are graded or ranked in some way on everything, from the very beginning. Even if you aren't receiving a "score" for each element, the cadre and other leadership are watching how you handle yourself and how you interact with your peers. No one is on their A-game all...

    Still in the game

fully embracing Alternative Plan A After being such an active stalker, and occasional poster (I'm the one who burned the grilled cheese sandwich!) on this thread, I wanted to offer a post script (or post TWE as it were)...The first 24 hours was the worst, but as usual, the passage of a few days...

Permit to Report Time an Indicator of Company?

9:45 report time Our DS had a report time of 9:45, which we learned later was one of the later report times. It doesn't matter in the big scheme of things, but I do remember that he missed lunch. When most were going to lunch, he was still being processed in, and didn't get his things to his...

    Denied Appointment

try the ACT as another option For those of you who will be going through this process again, you might want to try the ACT test in addition to retaking the SAT. The SAs don't have a preference, and the tests are designed very differently. Many kids do much better on one than the other - this...

    Still in the game

time to regroup... I've been to this thread three times today, and only now can bring myself to post. Dreaded TWE arrived yesterday. Ironically, it was the last Monday in March 2011 that our older DS received the call from MOC, so we were all sure the last Monday of March this year would be...

    Still in the game

I have been watching this site all day, I am so sorry that so many are feeling the sting of a TWE! We definitely need some good news for this group! I love that those who have been voted off the island are still here, offering support and encouragement - no wonder these kids are so terrific...

    Still in the game

What a heartbreaking day on this thread - there are no words other than we're here, and we understand. It's awful to feel so powerless when our kids are hurting.:frown: Still no news for us (or anyone else that we know) in SC. I'll be sending up special intentions in church tomorrow - as...

    Still in the game

Obsession has reached a new level... Note to self...don't get caught up 'just quickly checking' the forum while making a grilled cheese sandwich :( Laughter (even at self) is the best medicine!
