    National pool questions?

Sorry, did not check back in until now. Who knows how/where they come from, it doesn't really matter in the end does it? I do know there are several from the same competitive district that are now at the Academy, at least three or four that I know of. Don't sweat the details, like someone else...

    National pool questions?

My understanding is CA does not like to double nominate since there are so many applicants. Since your daughter received a congressional nomination that might be why you didn't hear anything from the senators. My son (class of 2020) was the same way as were others we know who also received...

I need all the advice I can get...

Hang in there, local congressman is your best bet. Hopefully you hear about interviews soon. If I remember correctly ours were around this time frame.

In our case our congressman interview came first, DS got a nomination, our state does not double nominate so we never heard from either senator, at all.

    Low BMI Remedial

There are weight gainer protein powders on the market. One in the morning and one before bed as well as an increased caloric intake - but keep it healthy not junk. Grains, proteins, smoothies.

    Chemistry

For the record I've heard Chem referred to as the "plebe killer". Mine is at USNA and was automatically enrolled in extra help for Calc (guessing based on those dreadful online placement tests). He's doing fine but struggling in Chem (something he hasn't had since sophomore year of HS) so he...

    No sport?

I would think the black belt is equivalent to a varsity sport though.

    No sport?

One of the biggest challenges when you get to the academy is time management. Saying I don't participate in a sport because I don't have the time when most other applicants have found the time won't help. That said I believe those in band (as you mentioned) at the academies do that in lieu of a...

    Above and Beyond

Sorry DaGrubs, I left off part of the answer, you do not apply separately, if they determine it to be the best path they will offer it.

    Above and Beyond

Naps is additional preparation to be ready for the rigors of the academics. Many are recruited athletes the coaches want but they aren't quite where they need to be academically (either GPA or test scores).

    Unhelpful "help"?

Thank you for the laugh this morning! I don't think an American flag (or a Navy flag)! Would hurt but it certainly won't make or break anything. The rest is hilarious. The cake is almost a little creepy. At least they are supportive!

High School Senior looking for advice

Hi Jerry. Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and a solid plan. There really is no harm to putting in an application next year and seeing what your options would be. I can not speak to VMI but the academy certainly is a special place. I will clear one thing up, AP courses and...

    blue chip committed athlete reconsidering....

I disagree with the first part if we want to remain competitive. Leaders are made by all sorts of criteria, not just stats, class of 2020 has 72% varsity team captains, I guarantee they are not all blue chip but clearly something they are looking for in their future leaders. BUT I agree on the...

I could use a quick response on this one Re: Football

It's not that it's unpopular it's that it doesn't apply to the topic at hand. That's like if I asked what kind of car to buy and you suggested a Cannondale bicycle.
