Really, do you want to be setting an example to your cadet that the rules don't apply to your family? No photos for six weeks will make them that much more valuable at the end. Be a good role model -- show your basic what following the rules looks like!

Ouch -- seven days from Florida? I'd better get some in the mail NOW!

I wondered if it was okay to send our cadet with moleskin -- saved our vacations several times, and sure wanting to keep our basic's feet in good shape.

I like the idea about numbering the letters -- that way, if they get held up for whatever reason, they can be sorted out to make more sense.

Just had a thought -- does DS pay/tip the barber in cash when he gets his "Welcome to USAFA" haircut?? Or does it get tacked on to the bill along with his uniforms, etc. I want him to be prepared with the proper $$ in hand if he needs it.

Depending on what part of Alabama is home, Frontier Airlines flies out of Denver to New Orleans. We're in the Florida panhandle, and it was a bit of a drive each way, but we saved a lot of money (they charge you for everything, but if your civvies are at home anyway, you won't have to pack...

That makes sense -- DS shadowed a girl in a Chemistry lab which was a 2 - hour block.

We were surprised that the appointees didn't tour the dorms because the parents did. Our son did see the mock-up in the Visitors Center, though. We know a 4th class cadet, and we were able to take him out to dinner Friday night and learn more first-hand info. I have not seen a kid that hungry...

Tour today was delayed more by a car accident inside the gate than by anything else. Appointees did not get to eat with the cadets, though -- they ate pizzas in another location. It was nice to meet some folks and tour the facilities. Bring a water bottle and be ready for lots of stairs.

It wasn't that any student only applied to one SA -- totally a personal choice for such a big commitment. But maybe it wasn't prudent to express an interest in four different nominations and only begin the application process for one SA. If there was only one that they were interested in, it...

I can't draw an airplane to save my life!! When DS got his USNA appointment, I drew an anchor on the family dry-erase board. Now with the USAFA appointment, I can't draw a falcon or an airplane -- I guess I could try a mountain range? :confused: Any easy doodle ideas??

Our Congressman is the Chairman of the House Committee for Veteran's Affairs, so he's super busy right now with hearings. DH happens to know someone in their office, though, and that person texted him a congratulations on DS appointment and to watch for the email from the USAFA on Thursday...
