    Letters of Recommendation

Sorry if my question was poorly worded. That ^ is exactly what I was asking, if that would be allowed. I played four years of varsity soccer and knew the coach pretty well off the field as well, so she could obviously write me a way better recommendation than any p.e. teacher or coach I know...

    Letters of Recommendation

Good to know, thanks. That doesn't hold true for the PE teacher/coach evaluation does it? As of right now, I'm not signed up for a PE class. And although there's a chance I'll be on a club team, I'll probably just do intramurals and work out on my own.

    Letters of Recommendation

I'll be applying as a college freshman (didn't know anything about CG or CGA last year). Can I still use high school teachers as my recommenders?

Does anyone know of any good books about the Coast Guard?

    USNA or USCGA?

Yes because it's not like they can see thread titles from the main menu and their eyes would be caught by "USNA or USCGA"

    Letters of Recommendation

Are they actual letters or are they forms like the other service academies have?

I'm not a cadet, but I did get in last year...and turned it down and am now reapplying. 35 ACT 1/148 4 years varsity soccer (MVP, captain, 1st-Team All-League, sportsmanship award, league championship) 1 year varsity track 1 year varsity XC NHS 150 hours community service (mainly as a...

    Class of 2015 Profile

I'd argue that the service academies are just as enamored with what you described in the first paragraph. You can get a letter of assurance (at least from USMA) when all they have is your SAT/ACT scores and transcripts. Granted, you still have to finish the application, which includes passing...

    Class of 2015 Profile

Yeah, I nearly noted in my last post but I figured it wasn't all that important since that's not the majority of the class. I'd also add you can know someone in admissions, like one kid in my class who got into Stanford because his dad got some admissions officer's kid a job... I'm going...

    Class of 2015 Profile

Well then I suppose we shall just have to agree to disagree. But we can continue trying to convince each other since it's good fun :shake: The service academies are harder to graduate from than Ivies and therefore more selective? Seems like a non sequitur to me. Selectivity has a great...

    Perfect SAT Score

You guys are ignoring the question by telling him all academics and nothing else won't get him in. That's not what he asked. He asked if superb academics and average other stuff will be enough. My guess is yes, but my guess isn't worth a whole lot.

    Class of 2015 Profile

I don't think it's a might not, I think it's a would not. But the fact that most of the Ivy kids would never make it out of a service academy is completely irrelevant when it comes to selectivity. Is a service academy harder? Absolutely. Is a service academy harder to get into? No, it's...

    Class of 2015 Profile

The comparison between the service academies and the Ivies is ridiculous. Most of the SA kids couldn't get into an Ivy, and most of the Ivy kids couldn't get into a service academy, so let's just stop comparing the two.
